Competency Overview Widget

Visualizes competencies and certifications of users in a matrix format.

Written by Logan Bowlby

Overview

The Competency Overview widget displays a matrix of Users and the Competencies they hold, so you can see team readiness and skill gaps at a glance. Each row is a User, each column is a Competency, and the cell shows that User's current certification status for it.

Why this matters: A single matrix tells you who is qualified for what, who is approaching renewal, and where coverage is thin — so you can plan training before a gap becomes an operational problem.

What the widget shows

  • Certification status for each Competency per User: current, in the renewal period, or expired.

  • Certified versus uncertified Competencies across the selected Users.

  • Color-coded indicators so gaps stand out at a glance.

Filters and options

  • Filter by User Groups or individual Users.

  • Filter by specific Competencies.

Best practice: Scope the widget to one team or User Group at a time. A focused matrix is easier to read than the whole organization at once, and it maps directly to the person responsible for that group's training.

Frequently asked questions

Q: How do I read the cell colors?
A: The indicators flag each User's status for a Competency — current, in its renewal period, or expired — so you can scan the matrix and spot gaps without opening individual records.

Q: Where can I learn more about setting up Competencies?
A: See Utilizing Competencies for how Competencies and Certifications are configured and assigned to Users.
