Overview
Most Water Quality issues, such as readings not flagging or options missing, come down to how a ruleset, its rules or a Checklist link is set up. This guide covers the problems that come up most often and how to fix each one.

Readings never flagged High or Low
If Water Quality readings are never marked High or Low, check these causes:
Cause: the question has no ruleset. The Water Quality Question's Ruleset is set to None. This also happens automatically when a linked ruleset is deleted. Fix: edit the Checklist and select a ruleset on the question.
Cause: no rule matches the Location. Every rule in the ruleset is limited to Location Groups, and the Checklist's Location isn't in any of them. Fix: add the Location to one of those Location Groups, or add a rule with no Location Groups at the end of the ruleset as a catch-all.
Cause: the parameter isn't in the rule. The parameter is ticked on the Water Quality Question but not in the rule that applies, so the reading is saved without being checked. Fix: edit the ruleset, tick the parameter in that rule and enter its limits.
🛑 Critical: If no rule matches a Location, readings there aren't checked against any limits, and nothing warns you. None of the other situations above shows a warning either — staff enter readings as normal, but they aren't checked. Test new Water Quality setups before relying on them (see the FAQ below).
Wrong rule is applied
Cause — Mobaro uses the first rule in the ruleset's list that has no Location Groups or has a Location Group containing the Checklist's Location. A rule with no Location Groups near the top catches every Location below it, and overlapping Location Groups mean the earlier rule wins.
Fix — rules can't be reordered, so arrange them by removing a rule and adding it again (it goes to the end). Put rules for specific Location Groups first and any rule with no Location Groups last, and avoid putting one Location in groups used by different rules.
Water Quality options don't appear
Cause — Water Quality isn't enabled for your organization. Both the ruleset table on the Checklists tab in Configuration and the Water Quality Question element are hidden until it is.
Fix — contact Mobaro Support to request access.
Ruleset won't save
The Save button is unavailable — check that the ruleset and every rule have a name, and that every ticked parameter has both a Minimum and a Maximum. Look for messages such as Limit is required, Number cannot be lower than 0 or Number limits are invalid, minimum must be lower than or equal to maximum. Collapsed rules can hide the problem, so expand each one.
You see “The ruleset could not be created” (or edited, or deleted) — only Super Users can create, edit or delete Water Quality rulesets. Ask a Super User to make the change.
Parameter limits have disappeared
Cause — the parameter was unticked and the ruleset was saved. Mobaro keeps limits only for ticked parameters.
Fix — tick the parameter again and re-enter its minimum and maximum. Keep a record of your limits outside Mobaro so you can restore them.
Staff see a Deviations screen
Why — when staff finish the Checklist, at least one Water Quality reading was out of range and the Schedule or Ad Hoc Slot has Require validation on rule deviation turned on. Staff can add an optional explanation and still finish; the Result is then marked as requiring validation. The same screen also lists other deviations the Schedule checks for, such as a Checklist answered too late.
What to do — nothing, if that's intended. Otherwise, turn the setting off on the Schedule or Ad Hoc Slot. See Understanding validation warnings and failures.
Best practices
Link a ruleset on every Water Quality Question.
Make sure every Location where water is checked matches a rule — or add a catch-all rule with no Location Groups at the end.
Tick the same parameters in the rule as on the Water Quality Question.
Plan rule order before you build a ruleset: specific rules first, catch-all last. See Best practices for structuring rulesets.
Keep a record of your limits outside Mobaro.
Train staff on what the High and Low markers mean.
Frequently asked questions
The Water Quality Ruleset or Water Quality Question doesn't exist on our account. Why?
Water Quality isn't enabled for your organization. It's an early-access feature: contact Mobaro Support to have it switched on. Until then, the ruleset table on the Checklists tab in Configuration and the Water Quality Question element are hidden.
A chlorine reading below my minimum isn't flagged. What's wrong?
Check the minimum in the rule that applies to that Location; a reading equal to the minimum isn't flagged. If a trigger should act on low readings, check its condition uses the right parameter (for example Free Chlorine, not Bromine).
Why won't the app accept a reading like ORP 212.7?
ORP takes whole numbers only; each parameter has a fixed number of decimals. See Configuring measurement parameters.
Can I test Water Quality rulesets before using them on live checklists?
Yes. Create a test Checklist with a Water Quality Question linked to the ruleset, perform it at a Location in each Location Group, and enter readings just inside and just outside your limits to confirm the right rule applies.
