Overview
Barcode sign-in selects an Operator by matching the scanned badge to the External ID on their User. The Operator then enters their PIN. Use it to find an Operator without searching the list; a badge does not replace the PIN.

Turn on barcode sign-in
To enable barcode sign-in, you must be a Super User or have a Role with Organization › Administrate. Go to Configuration › RideOps and find the RideOps settings panel. Tick Enable barcode sign-in; the change saves immediately. The setting applies across your organization's RideOps Locations. Operators can then use the scan button where it is available, as described below.
The same panel has Sign out all attendants on downtime creation. Change only the setting you intend to.
Set each Operator's External ID
1. Open the User
In the Backend, go to Users and open the Operator. You must be a Super User; for everyone else the External ID field is greyed out.
2. Enter the badge value
Enter the value encoded on the Operator's badge in External ID (up to 500 characters), then save. It must match the scanned code exactly, including capital letters, spaces and leading zeros. Organizations with the Mobaro API can also set External ID in bulk on the Users endpoint. For the rest of the User setup, see Create new users in your organization.
⚠️ Heads-up: If two Operators on the same Location share an External ID, a scan selects only one of them. Keep External IDs unique.
Sign in with a badge
1. Tap Scan badge to sign in
On Operator Selection, tap Scan badge to sign in. RideOps opens the tablet's camera. If it can't, it shows Error opening the camera; check the browser's camera permission. If the tablet has more than one camera, choose one under Camera. Tap Cancel to close the scanner.
2. Scan the badge
Hold the badge code in front of the camera. RideOps looks for an Operator on this Location whose External ID matches.
3. Enter your PIN
If there's a match, RideOps runs the same checks as tapping your name: Missing Pin if you have no PIN Code, Missing Competencies if a Required Competency is missing, otherwise the PIN prompt. If there's no match, it shows No operator found with the scanned code. If the badge belongs to the Operator who is already signed in, the scan signs them out, just as tapping their own name does.
Scan badge to sign in appears only when no Operator is signed in, or when the ride has no Positions. To hand over to another Operator on a ride with Positions, use Switch and pick their name. Attendants are always signed in by the Operator, without scanning; see Signing in as an attendant.
Best practices
Use the staff number your badges already carry as the External ID, so one badge works across systems.
Test a few badges on each tablet model before rollout; scanning relies on the tablet's camera.
Keep the manual list as the fallback: an Operator without a badge taps their name, then enters their PIN.
Frequently asked questions
I can't find Enable barcode sign-in in Configuration. Where is it?
Go to Configuration › RideOps and look in RideOps settings. You need Super User access or a Role with Organization › Administrate to change the setting. If it is still missing with the right access, contact Mobaro Support.
Why is the External ID field greyed out?
Only Super Users can set or change a User's External ID. For everyone else, including Roles with Users › Modify, the field is read-only.
The scan says No operator found. What's wrong?
The code doesn't exactly match the External ID of any Operator on this Location. Check the alert's code against the User's External ID, including capitals and leading zeros, and that they're listed as an Operator on the Location.
Does the badge replace the PIN?
No. The badge only selects the Operator. They still enter their 4-digit PIN, and a locked PIN stays locked until someone clicks Unlock PIN Code on their User.
