Overview
A Certification Process can use Peer assessment: instead of each person completing the Checklist themselves, the Assessors you choose complete it on their behalf. It's the right fit for supervisor sign-offs, in-field observations and practical checks where someone other than the candidate confirms competence.
This article covers what's different about peer assessment. For every setting on a Certification Process, see Create a Certification Process.

💡 Why this matters: Some qualifications can't be self-certified — a trainee shouldn't sign off their own ride-operation check. Peer assessment puts the award in the hands of a qualified assessor, so the Certification reflects a real evaluation rather than self-report.
Set up peer assessment
1. Open the Certification Process
Go to Competencies › Certification Processes and create a new Certification Process. Fill in the General section, then expand Assignees & Reviewers.
2. Choose Peer assessment
Under Assessment type, choose Peer assessment instead of the default Self assessment. An Assessors field appears.
⚠️ Heads-up: The Assessment type can't be changed once the Certification Process is saved. To switch an existing Process between self and peer assessment, create a new Process.
3. Add Assessors and Assignees
Assessors (required) — the Users and User Groups who complete the Checklist on others' behalf, for example your Supervisors group.
Assignees — the Users and User Groups being certified, for example your new ride operators.
4. Add validation (optional)
Tick Require Validation and add Reviewers if the assessor's result must be approved before the Competency is awarded. Then save the Process.
How assessment works in the app
Assessors see an Assess others section on the Certification tab of their Certification Center. Each Process there shows how many people are waiting. The assessor taps it, picks the person on the Select user to assess screen and completes the Checklist for them. For the full assessor view, see Using the Certification Center in the mobile app.
The people being assessed don't see peer-assessment Processes in their own app — not under My Certifications, and not as Awaiting approval. They see the result once the Competency is awarded, under their Competencies tab: straight after the assessment, or after a Reviewer approves it if Require Validation is on.
A person appears in the assessor's list only while they hold all of the Process's Required Competencies, have no result from it waiting for review, and would get a later expiry from completing it.
ℹ️ Note: Older versions of the Mobaro app don't support peer assessment, and peer-assessment Processes are hidden from them. If an assessor has no Assess others section, ask them to update the app.
Best practices
Use User Groups such as Supervisors or Ride Leads as Assessors, so membership changes flow through automatically.
Keep assessors out of the Assignees list, so no one ends up assessing themselves.
For safety-critical sign-offs, turn on Require Validation so a second person confirms the assessment.
To combine a knowledge test with a practical sign-off, use two Processes: a self-assessment test whose Competency is a Required Competency of the peer-assessed sign-off.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between self assessment and peer assessment?
With Self assessment, each Assignee completes the Checklist in their own Certification Center. With Peer assessment, an Assessor completes it for them under Assess others. Reviewers are different again: they approve results when Require Validation is on.
Can I change an existing process from self test to peer test?
No. The Assessment type is locked once the Process is saved. Create a new Certification Process with Peer assessment, then remove the Assignees from the old one. Don't delete the old Process: deleting it revokes every Certification it awarded.
Why isn't someone showing up for my assessors to assess?
Usually they have an earlier result from the Process that was disapproved: it still counts as waiting for review. Find it in Results and click Invalidate to bring them back. Also check they're an Assignee and hold all Required Competencies, and that the assessor's app is up to date.
I train everyone else. Can I assess myself as a Super User?
Being a Super User doesn't make you an assessor. Ask another Assessor to assess you, or have an administrator give you the Competency directly by creating a Certification for you. See Gaining and managing Certifications.
Why does a name show up more than once in my assess list?
Because that person is on the Process's Assignees more than once — for example directly and through a User Group, or through two User Groups. Each entry is listed separately. Remove the extra entry from Assignees to tidy the list.
