Mobaro Assignments and training in action

A worked example: raise an Assignment in the app, build a training Checklist, set up a Certification Process and complete it.

Written by Logan Bowlby

Overview

This worked example follows one park through two everyday jobs in Mobaro: raising work in the field with an Assignment, and training and certifying staff with a Certification Process. Each section has a short clip and links to the full how-to.

In the example, a ride host reports a loose queue-line handrail, and the park then trains and certifies a new operator for the same coaster.

Raise an Assignment in the app

Example: On the morning walk-through, a ride host finds a loose handrail in the coaster’s queue line and reports it straight from the Mobaro app.

In the app, open Assignments and tap Create Assignment. Choose the Location, give it a title such as Loose queue handrail, add a description and attachments, and pick the assignee — here, the Maintenance User Group. Assignees are notified according to their notification settings.

You can assign to yourself, to User Groups you belong to and their members, and to groups your groups can delegate to. See How to create and delegate an assignment and Delegable User Groups.

Build a training checklist

Example: The training lead builds a Coaster Operator Test in the Backend — the questions a new operator must answer before running the ride alone.

Build it like any Checklist in Checklists — see How to create a checklist. Give answer options Points if you want each test to get a score; see Understanding Checklist scoring.

ℹ️ Note: The score shows on the Result, but it doesn’t decide whether someone passes. A Certification Process awards its Competency when the Checklist is completed — or, with Require Validation, when a Reviewer approves the Result.

Set up a Certification Process

Example: The training lead links the test to a Coaster Operator Competency, assigns it to the New Operators User Group, and asks the ride supervisor to review each test.

Go to Competencies › Certification Processes and click Create. Enter a Name, choose the Awarded Competency and the training Checklist, and add Assignees and Reviewers. Tick Require Validation so a Reviewer signs off each Result. Under Competency Expiration, set when the Competency expires and, optionally, Mark as due for renewal. See Create a Certification Process.

⚠️ Heads-up: The Awarded Competency and Assessment type can’t be changed after you save. Nothing renews automatically, and Mobaro sends no reminder: after the renewal date, or once the Certification expires, the Process simply becomes available to the User again. See Staying ahead of certification expiry.

Take the Certification in the app

Example: The new operator opens the Certification Center tile on the app home screen, finds the test under My Certifications on the Certification tab, and completes it.

Because the Process requires validation, the Competency shows Awaiting approval until the ride supervisor approves the Result. Then it appears under Active on the Competencies tab, with its expiration date. See Using the Certification Center in the mobile app and Validating certifications as a reviewer.

Best practices

  • Assign repairs to a User Group, not one person, so the work is picked up when someone is off shift.

  • Keep Require Validation on for safety-critical Certifications, with experienced staff as Reviewers.

  • Set a renewal date well before expiry so staff can retake the Process without a gap.

  • Require the Competency on the ride’s Schedules or RideOps positions, so only certified staff do the work — see Utilizing Competencies.

Frequently asked questions

I created a certification process, but it isn’t grading the checklist. Can I set a pass score?

No. A Certification Process has no pass mark: the Competency is awarded when the Checklist is completed. Turn on Require Validation so a Reviewer approves or disapproves each Result. See Create a Certification Process.

Once a certification is due for renewal, do staff get the checklist again automatically?

The Process becomes available again in their Certification Center after the renewal date, or once the Certification expires. Mobaro doesn’t send a reminder. See Staying ahead of certification expiry.

How do I approve a certification?

A Reviewer approves the Result. In the app, open Checklists, tap the review icon at the top, then Awaiting Validation. See Validating certifications as a reviewer.

It won’t let me change a self assessment to a peer assessment. Why?

The Assessment type can’t be changed after a Certification Process is saved. Create a new Process with Peer assessment. See Allow peer assessments in certification processes.

Will deleting a certification process delete the certifications it gave?

No. Certifications it awarded stay active until they expire. To revoke them, disapprove or invalidate the Results that awarded them first. See Create a Certification Process.
