Overview
An Ad Hoc Slot Trigger turns a Checklist answer into a follow-up Checklist. When a User gives an answer that meets the condition you set, Mobaro creates an Ad Hoc Slot — a one-off slot for one or more Checklists, with its own Assignees, deadline and compliance settings — at the same Location or Asset. A finding in one inspection automatically queues the deeper check it calls for.
The slot is created when the triggering Checklist is completed; the User isn't asked to confirm anything. For the other trigger types, see Adding triggers to a checklist.

💡 Why this matters: Some answers need more than a task — they need a whole second procedure. A failed quick check might call for a full diagnostic Checklist by a technician. An Ad Hoc Slot Trigger schedules that Checklist automatically, with its own deadline and compliance tracking, instead of relying on someone to remember it.
Ad Hoc Slot or Assignment trigger
Both react to an answer, but they create different things. An Assignment Trigger raises a task to be resolved. An Ad Hoc Slot Trigger schedules a Checklist to be completed, which produces its own Result. Use an Ad Hoc Slot Trigger when the follow-up is a structured set of checks — a retest, a detailed inspection, an incident form. See Assignment triggers in Checklists.
Questions that support Ad Hoc Slot triggers
The Triggers panel appears only on these question types: Select Question, Select Question Group, Smiley Question, Number Question, Temperature Question, Date Question and Water Quality Question. For a Water Quality Question that uses a ruleset, the condition is below, within or above the rule's range.
Slider, Duration, Text, Photo, Signature and other question types don't support triggers. For the conditions each type offers, see Adding triggers to a checklist.
Add an Ad Hoc Slot trigger
1. Open the question's Triggers
In the Checklist editor, select the question, expand Triggers, click Add Trigger and choose Ad Hoc Slot Trigger.
2. Set the condition
Under If the answer to this question is:, set the answer that fires the trigger — for example equal to Not OK, or greater than a value. For a Select Question Group or Water Quality Question, first choose the Trigger Question.
3. Set the timing
Under Then create an Ad Hoc Slot with the following values:, enter Set deadline to — how long after the slot starts it must be completed, in Minutes, Hours or Days (2 Days by default). The slot starts as soon as the triggering Checklist is completed, unless you tick Delay start by and enter a delay. Tick Set grace period to to allow extra time after the deadline.
4. Choose the Checklists and people
Pick one or more Checklists for the slot and the Assignees (Users or User Groups). Add Reviewers if the follow-up must be validated, and choose Results visible to. Optionally add a Message to the assignee (optional), shown when they open the Checklist.
5. Set the compliance options
Tick the options the slot should carry — the same ones as on an Ad Hoc Slot you create yourself: Notify assignees when scheduled checklist(s) becomes available, Ignore missing results, Mark all results as requiring validation, Require correct GPS location, Require timely answer, Require maximum score, Require minimum answer duration, Require validation on rule deviation (Water Quality only), Is critical for operation and Required Competencies. 🛑 Critical: If you tick Is critical for operation on the trigger, every slot it creates affects the Location's readiness. With Always, the Location shows Not ready for operation from the moment the slot starts until the follow-up Checklist is completed (and approved, if your organization uses Color is only affected by approved results).
What happens when it fires
The User completing the Checklist doesn't see a prompt. When they complete the Checklist, Mobaro creates the Ad Hoc Slot at the Location or Asset the Checklist was completed for, and lists it under the question in the triggering Result's report. If the User changes the answer before completing so the condition is no longer met, no slot is created.
The slot then behaves like any other Ad Hoc Slot: its Assignees complete it in the app, and it can go Missing if it isn't completed in time. See Ad Hoc Slots — setup and behavior.
⚠️ Heads-up: The slot goes to every Assignee on the trigger, not to the User who answered — there's no option to assign it to the answering User. Only Assignees who have access to the slot's Location see it in the app, so assign a User Group and let Location membership narrow it down.
ℹ️ Note: The slot is created only when the Checklist is completed. It isn't created for a Checklist saved to finish later, for Checklists completed in a Certification Process, or when someone edits the answers of a completed Result.
Best practices
Point the slot at a purpose-built follow-up Checklist, such as a detailed diagnostic, rather than re-running the same Checklist.
Use Delay start by for retests that must wait, such as re-checking a water reading an hour after treatment.
Add Reviewers to the trigger when the follow-up needs sign-off; the original Schedule's Reviewers don't apply to the new slot.
Tick Is critical for operation only when the follow-up really must be done before the Location operates.
Frequently asked questions
Can the follow-up checklist start later, like a retest in an hour?
Yes. Tick Delay start by on the Ad Hoc Slot Trigger and enter 1 Hour. The slot starts an hour after the triggering Checklist is completed, and Set deadline to counts from that start.
The ad hoc slot is sent to several people instead of the person who answered. Why?
That's how Ad Hoc Slot Triggers work: the slot goes to every User and User Group in Assignees, filtered by who has access to the slot's Location. There's no option to assign it only to the User who answered.
Why wasn't the ad hoc slot created?
Check that the Checklist was completed, not saved to finish later, and that the final answer met the condition. Slots aren't created for Certification Process Checklists or when answers are edited on a completed Result.
How do I find the checklist that a trigger created?
Open the triggering Result: its report lists the created Ad Hoc Slot under the question. The follow-up Checklist's own Result is labelled From ad hoc slot.
Who validates the results of a triggered ad hoc slot?
The Reviewers set on the Ad Hoc Slot Trigger, not the original Schedule's Reviewers. With no Reviewers, only Super Users can validate them. See How to validate Checklists.
