Overview
The Downtime by Category widget shows your Downtimes as a donut chart, one slice per Downtime category. Use it to see which causes — mechanical, weather, guest behavior or whatever categories you use — account for most of your Downtime, and click a slice to see the Downtimes behind it.
By default each slice shows the number of Downtimes. Turn on Show total downtime duration to size the slices by total time instead. To add the widget to a dashboard, see How to set up Dashboard Templates.

💡 Why this matters: Knowing what causes most of your Downtime tells you where maintenance time and budget will make the biggest difference. Switching between count and duration shows whether a cause is frequent, costly, or both.
Read the Downtime by Category chart
Each slice is a Downtime category. Downtimes with no category are grouped as Uncategorized.
Hover over a slice to see its count, or its total duration when Show total downtime duration is on.
A Downtime counts in the period in which it started.
A Downtime with several categories counts once in each of them, so the slices can add up to more than your number of Downtimes.
Click a slice to open the Downtimes list for that category, with each Downtime's Location, Created time, Duration, State and Description.
Filter the Downtime by Category widget
Use the buttons at the top of the widget:
Time range: the last 12 months by default.
Category: count only the categories you pick. The button only appears if your organization has Downtime categories.
Locations: Locations or Location Groups.
State: Open, Blocking, Resolved and Closed are all included by default. If you untick every state, the widget shows no data.
Show total downtime duration (clock icon): switch the slices from number of Downtimes to total duration.
⚠️ Heads-up: With Show total downtime duration on, a Downtime with no recorded duration — usually one that hasn't been closed yet — counts its running time up to now, so its slice keeps growing. For settled figures, set State to Closed only. See Using downtime in Mobaro.
The widget only counts Downtimes at Locations you have access to, so two people can see different charts on the same dashboard. Its data reloads with the dashboard every 10 minutes and whenever you change a filter.
Best practices
Use Downtime categories consistently, so the chart compares like with like.
Look at both views: count shows frequent causes, duration shows costly ones.
Close resolved Downtimes promptly so durations are final — see Downtime on Dashboards.
Filter to one Location or Location Group to compare the causes for a single ride or area.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get a downtime report for a ride or for the park?
For a quick breakdown, filter this widget to the ride's Location and a time range, then click a slice to list its Downtimes. For the full list, use the Downtime list in the Backend — see Using downtime in Mobaro.
Can I see downtime categories per attraction?
Yes. Set the widget's Locations filter to one attraction to see its categories. The chart doesn't split by Location, so use one widget per attraction, or click a slice to see the Location of each Downtime.
The dashboard shows no downtime, but we had downtime. Why?
Check the filters: the Downtime must have started in the time range, and its state, category and Location must match. You also only see Downtimes at Locations you have access to. If every State is unticked, the widget shows no data.
Can I show downtime as a bar chart?
No. The widget is always a donut chart. Its toggle switches between the number of Downtimes and their total duration, not the chart type.
