Plan exceptional Opening Hours for a ride

Adjust the opening-hours Calendar for a closure or special event and verify the Location’s calendar and time zone.

Written by Logan Bowlby

Overview

Opening-hours exceptions describe when a ride is expected to operate during a closure, late opening or special event. Make those changes on its opening-hours Calendar, which is separate from the Checklist schedule.

💡 Why this matters: Accurate planned hours support the opening-time display and suggested Downtime calculations.

Before you start

Identify the Calendar attached to the Location and every other Location that shares it. These changes do not open or close the ride, schedule inspections or authorise operation.

Walkthrough

1. Identify the linked Calendar

Open the Location’s General Information and check Opening Hours and Time zone. Open that Calendar under Schedules › Calendars. If several rides share it, confirm the exception applies to all of them.

2. Exclude the regular hours

Click Exclusions › Add Exclusion and cover the exceptional day’s normal opening period. Give it a clear reason. Review Exclude Specific Slots: leave it off if a replacement Specific should remain, or include existing Specifics when the Location is fully closed.

3. Add special-event hours

For a changed opening period, click the date in the calendar and add a Specific with the intended dates and times. For a full closure, do not add a replacement opening slot. Save and inspect the Calendar for gaps or overlaps.

4. Verify the operating-day display

Check the affected Location and the day’s opening and closing display in RideOps when that day is shown. Review any affected Downtime estimate before accepting it. Do not assume Calendar edits recalculate durations already stored on closed Downtimes.

Check the outcome

The Calendar describes the intended exceptional hours, and normal dates remain unchanged. The ride’s actual operational state is managed separately.

Best practices

  • Use a dedicated opening-hours Calendar rather than an inspection Calendar.

  • Coordinate edits to shared Calendars.

  • Check the Location time zone whenever linking a new Calendar.

Frequently asked questions

Will the ride close automatically at the new time?

No. Opening hours do not operate the ride or change its state. See what opening hours affect.

Does this cancel inspection work?

Not when using a dedicated opening-hours Calendar. Checklist availability comes from its Schedule and any Calendar that Schedule inherits.

Will historical Downtime durations change automatically?

Do not assume so. Opening hours supply certain duration calculations and suggestions; review stored records separately. See Downtime calculations.
