Map Import Rows to Mobaro fields

Choose Locations, User Groups, Assignment Definitions, priorities and optional Assets, and check which Import Rows are ready.

Written by Logan Bowlby

Overview

Use Row Mappings to connect each Import Row to existing Mobaro choices. The importer uses Mobaro Reference Data; it does not create Locations, User Groups, Assets or Assignment Definitions from workbook text.

At a glance

Who can do this

Active Mobaro Users; a write-enabled organization API key is needed to import.

Assignment Importer › mapping screen

Works on

Assignment Importer desktop app (Windows x64 / macOS Apple Silicon)

Load the available choices

1. Refresh Mobaro Reference Data

Check the API key in Project Settings, then choose Reload Mobaro Data in the toolbar. Review Reload progress and the lists under Mobaro Reference Data.

Map the required fields

2. Choose the row’s field values

On the mapping screen, choose a value in Assignment Definition, Assignee, Location and Priority. Assignee choices are Mobaro User Groups. Use the supplied choices; a workbook cell containing a name is not automatically a Row Mapping.

Field

What to choose

Assignment Definition

Choose an existing definition, or Default Assignment. The choice determines available priorities.

Assignee

Choose the User Group that should receive the Assignment.

Location

Choose the Location for the Assignment.

Asset

Optional. Choose from the Asset hierarchy available for the selected Location.

Priority

Choose a priority for the selected definition. Default Assignment offers Low and High; Low is its default.

Mobaro ID

Filled after successful creation; it is not a field to populate from Excel.

3. Set the Assignment title

Open Project Settings › Import Templates and set Title template, for example by inserting the Source Table column containing the work item. Preview description content as needed. The Import Project Title alone does not supply an Assignment title.

4. Check the row status

Return to the mapping screen and inspect Status. Hover over ? to see the required fields still missing. A row is ready only when it is included and has a Location, Assignee, Assignment Definition, Priority and nonblank resolved title.

Status

Meaning

?

Required mapping is incomplete.

R

Ready for import; no Assignment has been created yet.

C

Created in Mobaro; the Import Row is locked for editing.

S

Excluded from import.

Best practices

  • Recheck Priority after changing Assignment Definition.

  • Recheck Asset after changing Location. Refresh reference data when your organization’s choices change.

Frequently asked questions

Why is Asset unavailable?

Choose a Location that has Assets in the loaded Mobaro Reference Data. Asset is optional and does not prevent an otherwise complete Import Row from becoming ready.

Why can’t I choose an individual User as Assignee?

Assignment Importer loads User Groups for the Assignee choices. Individual User assignment is not offered by this mapping control.

Does R mean the API will accept the row?

No. R confirms the local required fields are filled. The API can still reject stale choices, insufficient access or other invalid data when the Import Run reaches Mobaro.
