Text element

Show instructions or warnings in a Checklist with a Text Element: formatting, logic, how it shows in the app and RideOps, and on Results.

Written by Logan Bowlby

Overview

A Text Element shows text to the User while they complete a Checklist: an instruction, a safety warning, or a heading for the next checks. It asks for no answer and adds nothing to the score.

At a glance

Who can do this

Super Users, a Role with Checklists › Modify (or Create, for Checklists you created), or an Administrator or Editor of the Checklist's permission folder

Where

Checklists › open a Checklist › Add an element › Text Element

Works on

Backend (web) to set up. Shown in the Mobile app and RideOps.

💡 Why this matters: Guidance works best where the work happens. A Text Element puts the safety note, the method reminder or the "stop if you see X" warning in front of the User at the right step, instead of in a manual they won't open mid-task.

Add a Text Element

1. Open the Checklist editor

In the Mobaro Backend, go to Checklists and open or create a Checklist.

2. Add the element

Click Add an element and choose Text Element.

3. Enter the text

In the Text box, type what the User should read. The text is required. The toolbar offers Bold, Italic, Underline, Strikethrough, Ordered list and Unordered list.

4. Save

Click Accept Changes, then Save the Checklist.

In the app and RideOps

In the Mobaro app, the text shows in its place in the Checklist, with any Manuals, Videos and Links below it. The User doesn't have to do anything with it.

RideOps supports Text Elements and shows them the same way, with their Manuals, Videos and Links.

The text uses the app's standard size and colour; you can't make a Text Element larger. For a Checklist in several languages, translate the text too. See Translate a Checklist.

Logic

Give a Text Element logic to show it only when it applies, for example a warning shown only when a Select Question is answered Not OK, only on certain weekdays, or only at Locations with a given Location Property. See Adding logic to a Checklist.

Other elements can't base their logic on a Text Element, because it has no answer.

Text Elements on Results

Text Elements appear in their place on the Result report and its PDF. To leave them out, tick Hide text elements in a Report Template. See Creating and using Report Templates.

Best practices

  • Keep each Text Element short and put it just before the step it applies to. A long block at the top of a Checklist tends to get skipped.

  • Use bold for the one thing Users must not miss, and a list for steps.

  • Link the full procedure as a Manual instead of pasting it in.

  • Use logic so warnings appear only when they're relevant.

Frequently asked questions

Can you increase the text size of a text element so it appears larger on the mobile app?

No. Text Elements use the app's standard text size. To make text stand out, use Bold, a list, or a short separate Text Element right before the step.

Does a Text Element need an answer?

No. It only shows text and never blocks completing the Checklist.

Can I add pictures to the text?

Not inside the Text Element. Add an Image Element next to it, or attach the picture as Reference Images on the question it explains.
