Overview
An Image Element shows one or more pictures on a Checklist page: a diagram of the lubrication points, a photo of what a correctly fastened restraint looks like, or a map of the area to check. It asks for no answer and adds nothing to the score.
This article covers adding an Image Element, its settings, how it looks in the app and RideOps, and how it differs from the Reference Images you can attach to a question.

💡 Why this matters: A picture settles what words can't: which bolt, which gauge reading, what "worn" looks like. Putting it at the step where it's needed means the operator checks against the right standard instead of their memory.
Add an Image Element
1. Open the Checklist editor
In the Mobaro Backend, go to Checklists and open or create a Checklist.
2. Add the element
Click Add an element and, under Add new Element, choose Image Element.
3. Add the pictures
Under Images, click Select or Drop Files here or drag pictures onto it. You can add several; drag them by the handle to change their order. Click the pencil to open Edit Image and mark up a picture with the Pen Tool, Line Tool, Arrow Tool or Circle Tool.
4. Save
Click Accept Changes, then Save the Checklist.

In the app and RideOps
In the Mobile app, the pictures show in their place in the Checklist as a strip about a third of the screen high, with any Manuals, Videos and Links below. With more than one picture, the User swipes between them and dots show the position. Tapping a picture opens it full screen. The app downloads the pictures in the background when it syncs, so once they've downloaded they also show offline.
RideOps shows Image Elements too, with their Manuals, Videos and Links. The User doesn't have to do anything with an Image Element on either surface, and it never blocks completing the Checklist.

To add Reference Images, open the question in the Checklist editor and expand Reference Images. They accept the same picture types.
Logic
Give an Image Element logic to show it only when it's relevant, for example a diagram shown only when a Select Question is answered Not OK, or a site map shown only at Locations with a given Location Property. See Adding logic to a Checklist. Other elements can't base their logic on an Image Element, because it has no answer.
Image Elements on Results
The pictures appear in their place on the Result report and its PDF; click one in the report to open it. To leave them out, tick Hide image elements in a Report Template. See Creating and using Report Templates.
The same pictures are shown in every language of a translated Checklist. Duplicating a Checklist copies its Image Elements and their pictures.
Best practices
Put the Image Element directly before the question it explains, with a short Text Element above it as a caption.
Crop pictures to what matters and mark the key spot with an arrow or circle in Edit Image.
Keep file sizes modest so the Checklist downloads quickly on site Wi-Fi.
Use Reference Images instead when a picture belongs to one question only.
Frequently asked questions
Why are some of my image elements left-aligned and others centred?
There's no alignment setting: the app sizes and places the pictures itself. If Image Elements on the same Checklist display differently, contact Mobaro Support with the Checklist's name and the device you're using.
Why can't I save my image element?
An Image Element needs at least one picture, and only JPG, JPEG, PNG and GIF files are accepted. Remove any other file, add a picture, then click Accept Changes.
Can I show a different picture per location or language?
Per Location, yes: add an Image Element for each and show each one with logic based on a Location Property. Per language, no: the pictures are the same in every language.
Can I add a picture inside a text element?
No. Add an Image Element next to the Text Element, or attach the picture as Reference Images on the question it explains. See Text element.
