Overview
Attach reference material at the question where staff need it. A question can link to a manual and a named Section, while the manual’s Versions determine which file is offered at the Checklist’s Location.

💡 Why this matters: A focused reference helps staff reach the relevant instruction without searching a long manual during the inspection.
Before you start
Prepare the approved PDF in the Library and identify the pages needed for this step. Check the manual’s permission folder and Version limitations before attaching it. For detailed PDF setup, see Manual Sections and Versions.
Walkthrough
1. Check the Section and its PDF pages
Open the manual and confirm the named Section exists. In each applicable Version, check its Section Mappings, generate the section file when needed and preview it. Page numbers count from the first page of that PDF, which may differ from printed page labels.
2. Add the manual to the question
Open the Checklist question’s Manuals panel and use Add Manual. Browse the Library, choose the intended manual and confirm. Use a question title and explanatory text that tell staff when to consult it.
3. Choose the focused Section
In the attached manual card, change Section from The Entire Manual to the intended named Section. Accept the question’s changes and save the Checklist.
4. Verify the Location’s Version
Check the applicable Version’s Limit To Location Groups, then open the reference while completing the Checklist as an intended User. If several Versions match, the app offers a choice; the question does not pin one Version. Test any other Location variants too.
Check the outcome
When replacing a PDF, review and regenerate its Section mappings because page positions can change. Opening reference material is not an individual acknowledgement or qualification award. If that is required, use a separate sign-off workflow.
Best practices
Keep Section names stable and meaningful.
Test the generated section, not just the original PDF.
Check references again after every PDF replacement.
Frequently asked questions
Can a question select a specific manual Version?
No. It selects the manual and optionally a Section. Version availability is determined by Location Group limitations, and the app offers a choice if several match.
Why can’t staff find the ride’s manual?
Check Library access, the question link, Version Location Group limits and whether the device has refreshed. See mobile Library access.
Does reading the manual sign the User off?
No. A reference link does not award a Competency or record individual acknowledgement. Use the appropriate Checklist or Certification Process.
