Organizational and personal notification settings

How the Organization default and personal notification settings work, which notifications arrive by email or push, and the missed results digest.

Written by Logan Bowlby

Overview

Mobaro sends notifications about your own work: Assignments, Gallery images, Competencies and Results. Two layers decide which ones each User gets: an Organization default that applies to everyone, and personal settings each User can turn on for themselves. This article explains both, lists the notification types, and shows which arrive by email and which by push.

These settings are separate from Notification Rules, which send reports and availability notifications to chosen recipients. See Create and manage Notification Rules.

At a glance

Who can do this

Everyone, for their own settings. Organization default: Super Users, or a Role with Organization › Administrate and access to Notification Rules.

Where

Organization › Notification Rules › Notification Settings (bell); your name menu › Edit Profile; app Profile › Notification Settings

Works on

Backend (web) and Mobile app

Availability

All organizations

💡 Why this matters: These settings decide whether the right alerts reach people, or whether they're drowned in noise. A lean Organization default, plus the freedom to personalize, keeps notifications useful rather than ignored.

The two layers

Layer

What it does

Organization default

Set by a Super User or someone with Organization › Administrate. Every User gets these notifications unless they personalize.

Personal settings

Any User can turn on Personalize settings and choose their own. From then on, changes to the Organization default don't affect them.

Notification types and channels

Each notification type is available by email, by push, or both. Most Assignment types come in versions for Assignments assigned to me, assigned to my groups, created by me, and ones I'm subscribed to, so you can, for example, get push for your own work and only email for your team's.

Missed results digest

The Missed results digest is a periodic push summary of new Missing Results. It goes to Reviewers of the Schedule who hold a Role with Results › Validate Missing. Super User status on its own doesn't include them.

  • The Digest interval (minutes) is set once for the whole organization in the Organization default. The default is 60 minutes.

  • Users who turn the digest off get no digest at all, including in the Notification Center.

See Approving or rescheduling missed Results for what to do with Missing Results.

Set the Organization default

1. Open Notification Settings

In the Backend, go to Organization › Notification Rules and click the bell button, Notification Settings. The bell only appears for Super Users and Roles with Organization › Administrate. To open the page, a Role also needs a Notification Rules permission, such as View.

Opening Notification Settings from the Notification Rules page

2. Choose the defaults

Tick the email and push notifications everyone should get, set the Digest interval (minutes) if you use the missed results digest, then click Save.

⚠️ Heads-up: Changing the Organization default doesn't affect Users who have turned on Personalize settings. They keep their own choices.

Set your personal notifications

  • In the Backend: open the menu under your name, choose Edit Profile, scroll to Notification Settings, turn on Personalize settings, choose your email and push notifications, and save.

  • In the Mobile app: go to Profile › Notification Settings, turn on Personalize settings and choose your notifications.

To follow the Organization default again, turn Personalize settings off.

Best practices

  • Keep the Organization default lean: only the alerts everyone genuinely needs. Too many notifications train people to ignore them.

  • Let Users personalize from there, rather than turning everything on for everyone.

  • If you use Missing Results, give reviewers Results › Validate Missing and make sure the digest is on for them.

Frequently asked questions

How do I turn my notifications off?

Turn on Personalize settings in Profile › Notification Settings in the app, or under Edit Profile in the Backend, then untick the notifications you don't want. Your choices override the Organization default.

A user isn't getting Assignment emails. What should I check?

First, whether they've turned on Personalize settings: if so, the Organization default no longer applies and their own choices decide. Then check that the notification type has an email option and that their email address is correct.

Staff get a push every time we resolve old Assignments they created. Can we stop that?

Yes. Untick Assignment resolved for assignments created by me for push, in the Organization default or in each person's personal settings.

What does "subscribed" mean in the notification settings?

It covers Assignments or images you've subscribed to with Subscribe, or were added to as a Subscriber, for example by an Assignment trigger. You get their updates without being the assignee.

How are these different from Notification Rules?

These settings cover alerts about your own work. Notification Rules send reports and availability notifications to chosen recipients, such as reviewers or a Location's email. See Create and manage Notification Rules.
