Select Question Group type

Ask several lines with the same options in one Checklist question: set up, per-line scoring, logic, triggers, and app and RideOps behaviour.

Written by Logan Bowlby

Overview

A Select Question Group contains several lines that use the same answer options. Each line is answered separately. Use it for repeated checks, such as one line per seat, station or component.

To ask a single question, use a Select Question instead.

Add a Select Question Group

1. Add the question

In the Backend, go to Checklists, open the Checklist in the editor, click Add an element and choose Select Question Group. Enter a Title for the overall check (required, up to 1,000 characters) and, optionally, Explanatory Text.

2. Choose the type and add options

Under Question Configuration, set Type to Single choice (one option per line) or Multiple choice (any number per line). Click Add new option for each answer, such as OK and Not OK, and enter its Points if you score the Checklist: a whole number of 0 or more. Drag options to change their order.

3. Add lines and save

Under Lines, click Add new line for each item and type its text (up to 1,000 characters). Drag lines to reorder them, or click the delete icon to remove one. The group needs at least one option and one line. Then click Accept Changes and Save the Checklist.

How lines are answered and scored

Every line uses the group's options: one per line for Single choice, at least one per line for Multiple choice. Every visible line must be answered before the Checklist can be completed.

Each line scores like a Select Question, and the group itself adds nothing. For example, five lines with OK worth 1 point make the group worth 5 points. See Understanding Checklist scoring.

In the app and RideOps

In the Mobaro app, the group shows its Title, Explanatory Text and Reference Images once, followed by one answer row per line. Users can add comments, photos or Assignments on each line if the group's Action Menu Options allow it.

RideOps supports Select Question Groups. The group shows as a card with its Title and Explanatory Text, and each line appears below it as a Select Question.

🛑 Critical: Older versions of the Mobaro app don't receive Select Question Groups and leave them out of the Checklist without a warning. If a group is missing on a device, don't complete safety or pre-opening checks on it: update the app first. See Unsupported question when completing a Checklist.

Logic and triggers

Logic on the group shows or hides the whole group. You can't show or hide single lines.

Logic based on a line: other pages and elements can depend on one line's answer. In the question list, pick the line under the group's name, then equal to or not equal to one of the options. See Logic based on an answer to a question.

Triggers are added on the group, under Triggers. Each trigger's condition picks a line and an option, so Not OK on Seat 3 can raise its own Assignment. Single choice allows equal to or not equal to; Multiple choice allows equal to only, so switching a group to Multiple choice changes its not equal to trigger conditions to equal to: check them after the change. See Adding triggers to a checklist.

Results and reports

On the Result, each line shows with its answer and points. On dashboards, each line counts as its own Select Question: in the Answer Distribution widget, pick the line by its text (the group's Title isn't shown), so give lines text that makes sense on its own.

Users with Results › Modify and Super Users can correct the answer on a completed Result. See Modify Checklist Results.

Best practices

  • Use a group only when every line takes the same options. If items need different answers, use separate Select Questions.

  • Keep line text short and specific, such as "Seat 3 – lap bar".

  • Give options that shouldn't count, such as N/A, empty points so they leave the line out of the score.

  • Add a trigger for each safety-critical line, so a failure raises work automatically.

  • Update devices to the latest app before you publish a Checklist that uses a group.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a select question and a select question group?

A Select Question asks one question. A Select Question Group asks several lines that share the same options, such as one row per seat, and each line is answered and scored separately. See Select Question type.

Can I create a table with different questions that have different answers?

No. Every line in a group has the same options. For items that need different answers, use separate Select Questions, or one group per set of options.

My ride has 5 seats and I check one each day. Can the group show only one line per day?

No. Logic applies to the whole group, not to single lines. Use five Select Questions instead and give each a Weekday condition. See Adding logic to a Checklist.

How do I give the answers points?

Enter Points on each option. Every line scores its chosen option's points; on Multiple choice, every ticked option counts. See Understanding Checklist scoring.
