Overview
A Smiley Question records a rating when the User selects a face. Choose 2 to 5 faces for condition or satisfaction checks, or 11 Smileys (NPS) for a Net Promoter Score question from 0 to 10.
Each face can have a label and points, and you can allow an N/A answer. Smiley answers can be scored, drive logic and triggers, and feed dashboard widgets, including the NPS widgets.

Add a Smiley Question
1. Open the Checklist editor
In the Mobaro Backend, go to Checklists and open or create a Checklist.

To offer an answer for when the rating doesn't apply, tick Allow N/A answer and type its text (up to 75 characters). Then click Accept Changes and Save the Checklist.

How Smiley answers score
The chosen face scores the points you gave it, and the question's maximum is its highest-scoring face. A face with empty points, or an N/A answer, leaves the question out of the score: it adds neither points nor maximum. For example, on 5 Smileys with 0 to 4 points from worst to best, the middle face scores 2 of 4. See Understanding Checklist scoring.
In the app and RideOps
In the Mobaro app, the faces are listed with the best at the top, each with its label; N/A, if allowed, comes last. The User taps a face, and taps it again to clear it. A visible Smiley Question needs a face or N/A before the Checklist can be completed.
⚠️ Heads-up: RideOps doesn't support Smiley Questions. When you pick a Checklist with one in a Location's RideOps settings, the Backend warns <Checklist> has content that is not yet supported by the RideOps app. In RideOps, Operators see Checklist contains unsupported questions and can cancel or Continue anyway, then tick I understand on the question, which is left unanswered. Use a Select Question in RideOps Checklists. See Configuring Checklists for RideOps.
Logic and triggers
Other pages and elements can depend on a Smiley answer, and triggers can fire on it, with better than, worse than or equal to a face, or answered with N/A. better than and worse than are never met by an N/A answer.
For example, an Assignment Trigger with worse than the middle face raises an Assignment for every poor rating. See Adding triggers to a checklist and Logic based on an answer to a question.
NPS and dashboards
11 Smileys (NPS) records a score from 0 to 10. The NPS Historic Score, NPS Segments and NPS Score Development widgets read one such question and sort the answers into Detractors (0 to 6), Passives (7 or 8) and Promoters (9 or 10). They use the face chosen, not its points, and only list 11 Smileys (NPS) questions.
⚠️ Heads-up: Allow N/A answer on the NPS question means N/A answers are counted as Passives. They add to the responses and pull the score towards 0. Leave N/A off NPS questions for a standard score.
Any Smiley Question can be charted with the Answer Distribution widget, where each face is a segment named by its label, and N/A is grey. Scored answers also count in score widgets. See the Dashboard widget catalog.
Smiley answers on Results
The Result report lists every face with its label and points and highlights the one chosen. With Hide unanswered answer options in a Report Template, only the chosen face shows. Users with Results › Modify and Super Users can correct the answer on a completed Result. See Modify Checklist Results.
Best practices
Use 3 or 5 faces for staff condition checks, and 11 Smileys (NPS) only for a "How likely are you to recommend us?" question.
Label every face, such as Very poor to Excellent, so answers read clearly on Results and charts.
Give points that rise from the worst face to the best.
Pick the number of faces before the Checklist goes live. On save, Mobaro adds or removes faces to match the type, so check labels, points, logic and triggers after a change.
Leave Allow N/A answer off NPS questions.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best question for a rating?
A Smiley Question for a quick rating by face: 2 to 5 faces, or 11 Smileys (NPS) for a 0 to 10 score. For a rating on a numeric scale, use a Slider Question; for named answers such as Pass or Fail, a Select Question.
How do I create a guest survey with an NPS score?
Add a Smiley Question set to 11 Smileys (NPS) and leave Allow N/A answer off. Then add the NPS widgets to a Dashboard Template. See How to set up Dashboard Templates and NPS Historic Score Widget.
Can I auto-send an email notification when a checklist gets a low rating?
Not for a single answer. Add an Assignment Trigger with worse than a face instead, so a low rating raises an Assignment for someone to follow up. A Result Report can be limited to Results scored below maximum, but not to one answer. See Assignment triggers in Checklists.
