Overview
The Question Category Hierarchy widget draws one of your Question Category Hierarchies as a tree. Each box is a Question Category Group or Question Category, with its score and the points achieved out of the points possible, so you can see which topics pull the score down.
Question Categories are tags you put on Checklist questions — see Comparing scores across Checklists with Question Categories. To add the widget to a dashboard, see How to set up Dashboard Templates.

Works on | Backend (web) |
Availability | All organizations. Needs Question Categories on scored questions, and access to Google Charts. |
💡 Why this matters: One Question Category can span many Checklists. The tree shows how a topic such as restraints or cleaning scores across all of them, and which part of it is weakest.
Choose what to show
The widget shows nothing until you choose where the tree starts. Until then it says Please select a question hierarchy, group, or category. Filters combine, and you can also give the widget a custom title.
Question Category: pick one Question Category Hierarchy, Question Category Group or Question Category. It becomes the top of the tree.
Time range: the button at the top left shows the current period — Last 12 months by default. Choose Today, Yesterday, Last week, Current week, Current month, Last a number of Days, Weeks or Months, Specific month or Custom Time Range. There is no All Time option.
Checklists: only answers from these Checklists count. With nothing selected, all Checklists count.
Locations: Locations or Location Groups. With nothing selected, the widget covers every Location you can see.
There's no tags, Checklist Category or points setting: the boxes always show both score and points.
Read the tree
The top box is the hierarchy, group or category you picked. Below it are its groups and categories.
Each box shows the name, the score as a percentage and, underneath, the points achieved out of the points possible.
The score's color runs from red through yellow to green as it rises. The scale is fixed; there are no thresholds.
A blank white box has no scored answers in the period.
How the scores are calculated
A category's score is all the points achieved on questions tagged with it, divided by all the points possible. It covers completed Results in the period that match the filters and that you can see. A group adds up the points of everything below it, so Results with more scored answers weigh more. A question tagged with two categories counts in both. Only answers that carry points count — see Understanding Checklist scoring.
⚠️ Heads-up: The widget uses each question's current Question Categories. Tagging or untagging a question also changes the scores shown for earlier Results.
Drill into a category
1. Click a box
A window titled with the category's name lists each Checklist and Question in it with its Average Score, lowest first.
2. Click a question
Show Locations lists each Location with its Achieved Points, Potential Points and Score for that question. Use the back arrow to return to the questions.
3. Click a Location
Show Results leaves the dashboard and opens the Results of that Checklist at that Location.
Access and refresh
Only Results you can see count: Super Users see all of them; other Users see Results at their Locations that they're allowed to view. See How access works in Mobaro.
Times are in the dashboard's time zone. The widget reloads with the dashboard every 10 minutes and whenever you change a filter. Bulk filtering can also change its time range, Checklists and Locations, and the Location Switcher its Locations. See How to use the Dashboard.
ℹ️ Note: The tree is drawn with the Google Charts library. Where it can't load, for example in some regions or behind a strict firewall, the widget shows a message that the Question category dashboard is unavailable.
Best practices
Start the tree at a group rather than a large hierarchy, so the boxes stay readable.
Give points to every tagged question; unscored questions leave boxes blank.
Click the lowest-scoring box first, then the lowest question, to find the Location behind a weak topic.
Pair it with the Question Category Score widget for one category's score at a glance.
Frequently asked questions
What are question categories?
Tags you add to Checklist questions, organized in a hierarchy of groups and categories, so you can score one topic across many Checklists. See Comparing scores across Checklists with Question Categories.
Can I see question category scores in the mobile app?
No. The Question Category Hierarchy widget and the other dashboard widgets are only in the Backend (web).
The widget says it's unavailable in my region. What can I do?
The tree needs the Google Charts library, loaded from www.gstatic.com. Ask your IT team whether it's blocked on your network. Where Google Charts can't be used at all, use the Question Category Score widget instead.
Why is a category box blank?
No scored answers to questions with that category match the period and filters. Check that the questions have points, widen the time range, or clear the Checklists and Locations filters.
If I tag a question now, do older results count?
Yes. The widget uses each question's current Question Categories, so answers given before you tagged the question are included from then on. Removing a tag removes them again.
