Question Category Score widget

How the Question Category Score widget calculates one category's score, its filters, Fill by Progress and Show Points, and why it can show 0%.

Written by Logan Bowlby

Overview

The Question Category Score widget shows the score for one Question Category, or one Question Category Group, as a percentage on a red-to-green bar. It answers the question "How are we doing on this topic across all our Checklists?"

Question Categories are tags you put on Checklist questions — see Comparing scores across Checklists with Question Categories.

Availability

All organizations. Needs Question Categories on scored questions.

💡 Why this matters: Isolating one topic, such as restraints or cleaning, turns scattered Results into a clear signal of where that part of operations stands.

Question Category Score widget showing one category's score on a red-to-green bar

What it shows

  • The score is all the points collected on answers to questions tagged with the category — or with any category in the group, including its sub-groups — divided by all the points possible on them, as a percentage. Questions worth more points weigh more. See Understanding Checklist scoring.

  • With Show Points on, the widget shows Average Points, the average points per scored answer, as a number.

  • It covers completed Results whose Answered time is in the period, whatever their approval state. Unscored answers and deleted Results are left out. Only Results you can see count: Super Users see all of them; other Users see Results at their Locations that they're allowed to view. See How access works in Mobaro.

  • The widget uses each question's current Question Categories for all its Results, so tagging or untagging a question also changes the score for earlier Results.

The bar runs from red through yellow (around 60%) to green, and the marker above it shows the score as a whole percentage. The colors are fixed; there's no threshold or target setting.

Settings and filters

Use the buttons at the top of the widget. Filters combine, so an answer has to match all of them. You can also give the widget a custom title. Anyone viewing the dashboard can change these settings for themselves; to keep them, save a Personal filter.

Reading the widget

  • Until you pick a category, the widget says No Question Category Selected.

  • Click the widget to open a window named after the category. It lists each Checklist and Question in it with its Average Score (or Average Points with Show Points on), lowest first.

  • Click a question (Show Locations) to see each Location with its Achieved Points, Potential Points and Score. Click a Location (Show Results) to open those Results.

⚠️ Heads-up: Known issue: when no scored answers match the category and filters, the widget shows 0% (or 0 points) instead of a no-data message. Before acting on a 0% score, click the widget: if the window lists no questions, there's no data.

Times are in the dashboard's time zone. The widget reloads with the dashboard every 10 minutes and whenever you change a setting. Bulk filtering can also change its time range, Checklists and Locations, and the Location Switcher its Locations. See How to use the Dashboard.

Best practices

  • Add one widget per topic leadership asks about, and give each a custom title.

  • Pick a group for a combined score, such as all cleaning categories together.

  • Click the widget when the score dips to find the question and Location behind it.

Frequently asked questions

What are question categories?

Tags you add to Checklist questions, organized in a hierarchy, so you can score one topic across many Checklists. See Comparing scores across Checklists with Question Categories.

How do I compare more than one category?

Pick a Question Category Group for one combined score, or add a widget per category. To see categories side by side, use the Average Score by Question Category widget.

Why does the widget show 0%?

Often because no scored answers match: a known issue shows 0% instead of "no data". Click the widget; an empty list means no data. Check that the tagged questions give points, widen the time range, or clear the Checklists and Locations filters.

Can I see the exact percentage?

Yes, the marker above the bar shows it as a whole percentage. There's no hover tooltip. For decimals, click the widget to see each question's Average Score.
