Circular Question Category Score widget

How the Circular Question Category Score gauge calculates a category's score, what its fixed colors mean, and which filters it has.

Written by Logan Bowlby

Overview

The Circular Question Category Score widget shows the score for one Question Category, or one Question Category Group, as a percentage in a circular gauge. It's the gauge version of the Question Category Score widget and shows the same score.

Question Categories are tags you put on Checklist questions — see Comparing scores across Checklists with Question Categories.

Availability

All organizations. Needs Question Categories on scored questions.

💡 Why this matters: A gauge makes one topic's score readable from across the room, which suits dashboards shown on a wall screen.

What it shows

  • The score is all the points collected on answers to questions tagged with the category — or with any category in the group, including its sub-groups — divided by all the points possible on them, as a percentage. Questions worth more points weigh more. See Understanding Checklist scoring.

  • It covers completed Results whose Answered time is in the period, whatever their approval state. Unscored answers and deleted Results are left out. Only Results you can see count: Super Users see all of them; other Users see Results at their Locations that they're allowed to view. See How access works in Mobaro.

  • The widget uses each question's current Question Categories for all its Results, so tagging or untagging a question also changes the score for earlier Results.

The gauge fills up to the score, shown as a whole percentage in the middle. Its color follows a fixed scale: red at 0%, yellow around 60% and green at 100%, blending in between. There are no thresholds or expected scores.

Settings and filters

Use the buttons at the top of the widget. Filters combine, so an answer has to match all of them. The default title is Question Category Score. You can also give the widget a custom title. Anyone viewing the dashboard can change these settings for themselves; to keep them, save a Personal filter.

Reading the widget

  • Until you pick a category, the widget says No Question Category Selected.

  • Click the widget to open a window named after the category. It lists each Checklist and Question in it with its Average Score, lowest first.

  • Click a question (Show Locations) to see each Location with its Achieved Points, Potential Points and Score. Click a Location (Show Results) to open those Results.

⚠️ Heads-up: Known issue: when no scored answers match the category and filters, the gauge shows 0% instead of a no-data message. Before acting on a 0% score, click the gauge: if the window lists no questions, there's no data.

Times are in the dashboard's time zone. The widget reloads with the dashboard every 10 minutes and whenever you change a setting. Bulk filtering can also change its time range, Checklists and Locations, and the Location Switcher its Locations. See How to use the Dashboard.

Best practices

  • Use the gauge for high-level summaries and the Average Score by Question Category widget for the detail behind it.

  • Give each gauge a custom title naming the topic, since the default title doesn't say which category it shows.

  • Check a 0% gauge's filters before acting on it.

Frequently asked questions

What do the gauge colors mean?

They show the score on a fixed scale: red at 0%, yellow around 60% and green at 100%. They aren't based on a threshold or an expected score, and you can't change them.

Why does the gauge show 0%?

Often because no scored answers match: a known issue shows 0% instead of "no data". Click the gauge; an empty list means no data. Check that the tagged questions give points, widen the time range, or clear the Checklists and Locations filters.

How is this different from the Question Category Score widget?

It shows the same score as a gauge instead of a bar. It has no Show Points or Fill by Progress option.

If I tag a question now, do older results count?

Yes. The widget uses each question's current Question Categories, so answers given before you tagged it are included straight away. Removing the tag removes them again.
