Overview

A Member Question asks the User to pick people from your organization: one or more Users, User Groups, or both. Use it to record who was involved in a check: the technician who handed a ride over, the second person on a two-person check, the supervisor who signed, or the team on shift.

The answer is the selected Users and User Groups, saved on the Result. A Member Question has no options, points or triggers.

💡 Why this matters: The User who completes a Checklist is recorded automatically, but many checks involve other people. A Member Question puts their names on the Result from your own user list, so there are no misspelt free-text names and you can report on who was involved.

Add a Member Question

1. Open the Checklist editor

In the Mobaro Backend, go to Checklists and open or create a Checklist.

2. Add the question

Click Add an element and choose Member Question. Enter a Title that says who to pick, for example Ride handed over by.

3. Configure it

Under Question Configuration, choose the Selection Type and the Allowed Types, and optionally narrow the list with Limit to users and groups.

4. Save

Click Accept Changes, then Save the Checklist.

Who can be picked

The list is worked out on the device, for the Location the Checklist is completed at:

Users: people with access to that Location who are in one of the performing User's User Groups, or in a group they can delegate to.
User Groups: groups the performing User is a member of or can delegate to, with at least one such User in them.
The performing User always appears in the Users list themselves. Limit to users and groups narrows the list further.

So two people completing the same Checklist can see different lists. To widen it, add the people to the Location, or set up delegable User Groups; see Delegable User Groups: cross-team assignment without expanding membership.

Answering in the app

In the Mobaro app, the User taps Tap here to select, picks people in Select member(s) and confirms. The selected User Groups and Users are listed under the question, Users with their External ID if they have one. Clear selection removes the answer. The list comes from data already on the device, so it works offline.

Every visible question must be answered, so a Member Question must have a selection before the Checklist can be completed. The exception: if nobody can be picked, the app shows "There are no users or user groups to choose from at this location. This may be the result of a checklist misconfiguration." and the question counts as answered with no one selected.

⚠️ Heads-up: RideOps doesn't support Member Questions. When an Operator opens a Checklist containing one, RideOps warns that it contains unsupported questions, and the question can only be left unanswered. Keep Member Questions out of Checklists used in RideOps; see Unsupported question when completing a Checklist.

Logic and triggers

A Member Question can be shown or hidden by any logic condition, for example only while the Result is Awaiting Validation, or only for members of a User Group. See Adding logic to a Checklist. Don't base other elements' logic on a Member Question: the logic editor has no way to pick a User or User Group to compare its answer with. Member Questions don't support triggers.

Member answers on Results

Result report and PDF: the selected User Groups and Users are listed under the question.
Editing: in the Backend, the answer can be changed on a completed Result. See Modify Checklist Results.
Excel export: the names, separated by semicolons.
Dashboards: the Answer Counts (Column) widget counts how often each User or User Group was selected, with a Users and User Groups filter. The Answer Distribution widget doesn't support Member Questions.
Mobaro API: the answer is the selected Users' and User Groups' IDs. See Mobaro API parameter reference.

Best practices

Name the role in the Title, such as Second operator or Handed over by, so it's clear who to pick.
Use Limit to users and groups to keep the list short, for example only the Maintenance group.
Pair a Member Question with a Signature Question when someone other than the signed-in User signs. See Signature Question type.
Test the question on a phone at a real Location before scheduling, to check the list isn't empty.

Frequently asked questions

What is a member question and how does it work?

It lets the User pick Users or User Groups from your organization as the answer, for example who handed over a ride. You choose single or multiple selection, whether Users, User Groups or both, and optionally limit who can be picked.

How can we record who handed a ride over to operations?

Add a Member Question such as Handed over by to the handover Checklist, and optionally a Signature Question. The Result records the date and time it was completed and the User who completed it automatically.

The app says there are no users or user groups to choose from. Why?

Nobody at that Location passes the selection rules, usually because only User Groups are allowed or Limit to users and groups excludes everyone there. Users must also have access to the Location and be in, or delegable from, the performing User's User Groups. The question counts as answered.

Can operators answer a member question in RideOps?

No. RideOps doesn't support Member Questions and leaves them unanswered. Use them only in Checklists completed in the Mobaro app.

Can I see on a dashboard who was selected?

Yes. Add an Answer Counts (Column) widget for the Member Question; it counts how often each User or User Group was selected and can be filtered by Users and User Groups.
