Average Score widget

What the Average Score widget averages, which Results count, its filters and Show Points option, and how to see the score per Location.

Written by Logan Bowlby

Overview

The Average Score widget shows one number: the average score of the completed Checklist Results in a period, as a percentage on a red-to-green bar. You can narrow it to Checklists, Checklist Categories or Locations, or switch it to average points.

Click the widget to see the average for each Location and Location Group. To add the widget to a dashboard, see How to set up Dashboard Templates.

Availability

All organizations. Only Checklists with scored questions count.

💡 Why this matters: A single score is the fastest read on whether a process is healthy, so you only drill in when it dips.

What the score counts

  • Each Result's score is the points collected divided by the maximum possible, as a percentage. See Understanding Checklist scoring.

  • The widget averages those scores. Every Result counts equally, however many questions it has.

  • It includes completed Results whose Answered time is in the period, whatever their approval state: awaiting validation, approved, disapproved or not needing approval.

  • Results with no scored answers are left out, and so are deleted Results.

  • Only Results you can see count. Super Users see all of them; other Users see Results at their Locations that they're allowed to view. See How access works in Mobaro.

The bar runs from red through yellow (around 60%) to green, and the marker shows the score. The colors are fixed; there's no threshold or target setting.

Filter the widget

Use the buttons at the top of the widget. Filters combine, so a Result has to match all of them. You can also give the widget a custom title.

  • Time range: the button at the top left shows the current period — Last 12 months by default. Choose Today, Yesterday, Last week, Current week, Current month, Last a number of Days, Weeks or Months, Specific month or Custom Time Range. There is no All Time option.

  • Checklist Categories: Results of Checklists in the chosen categories. Only shown if your organization uses Checklist Categories.

  • Checklists: one or more Checklists. With nothing selected, all Checklists count.

  • Locations: Locations or Location Groups. With nothing selected, the widget covers every Location you can see.

  • Fill by Progress: fills the bar up to the score in one color, instead of showing the full red-to-green bar. Hidden while Show Points is on.

  • Show Points: shows Average Points, the average points per scored answer, instead of a percentage.

ℹ️ Note: The widget has no grouping option. For a breakdown, click it to see each Location, or use Average Score by Locations and Groups, Average Score by Question Category or Average Score Per Page — see the Dashboard widget catalog.

Times are in the dashboard's time zone. The widget reloads with the dashboard every 10 minutes and whenever you change a filter. Bulk filtering can also change its time range, Checklists and Locations, and the Location Switcher its Locations. See How to use the Dashboard.

See the score per Location

Click the bar or number to open Average Score, a table of each Location/Location Group with its Average Score, or Average Points when Show Points is on. It uses the widget's filters.

Location Groups are listed first: click one to expand its Locations and sub-groups. A group's average weights each Location by its number of Results. Results without a Location aren't listed. Click a column header to sort.

Best practices

  • Use the same scoring scheme on Checklists you want to compare, so their averages mean the same thing.

  • Filter each widget to one Checklist or Checklist Category; an average across unrelated Checklists is hard to act on.

  • Use the color bar to spot a dip, then click the widget to find the Location behind it.

  • Pair it with the Score Development widget to see the trend over time.

Frequently asked questions

What is the score of a checklist?

The points collected on a completed Result divided by the maximum points possible, as a percentage. This widget averages those percentages across Results. See Understanding Checklist scoring.

How do I add a score so it shows on the dashboard?

Give points to the answers on the Checklist's questions. Results with no scored answers aren't counted, so a Checklist without points never appears in the average. See Understanding Checklist scoring.

If I approve a result, will the average go back up?

No. Approving doesn't change a Result's score, and the widget counts completed Results whatever their approval state. The score only changes if an answer is edited.

Can I break the score down by location or question category?

Yes, but not with a grouping setting. Click the widget for each Location and Location Group. For Question Categories, use the Average Score by Question Category widget.

Can I compare checklist results in a chart?

Not in this widget, which shows one number. Use Score Development for scores over time, or Average Score by Locations and Groups for a bar per Location. See the Dashboard widget catalog.
