Photo Question Type

Require a photo captured from the device camera in a Checklist — visual proof for inspections, compliance, and quality assurance. Supports logic but not triggers.

Overview

A Photo Question requires the User to capture and attach a photo from the device camera — visual proof for inspections, documentation, and compliance. It supports logic, but as a captured image with no fixed value it doesn't support triggers.

Users must be Super Users or have the following Role to add or edit Checklist questions:

  • Checklists: Modify or Create

Why this matters: A photo is the hardest evidence there is — it shows the actual condition at the moment of the check, not someone's description of it. For safety and compliance items, a required photo turns "marked complete" into "here's the proof," which is exactly what an audit or incident review needs.

When to use a Photo Question

  • Verification of work — proof of completed maintenance, repairs, or safety checks (for example, a photo of a secured restraint before dispatch).

  • Compliance and incident reporting — document an issue or a completed task.

  • Quality assurance — visual confirmation of conditions during audits.

Adding a Photo Question

1. Open the editor and add the question

In the Mobaro Backend, go to Checklists, open the editor, click Add an element, and choose Photo Question.

2. Set a clear title

Give the question a Title that states exactly what to capture, and add Explanatory Text if useful (for example, "Take a photo showing the completed repair").

Reporting and review

Once a Checklist with a Photo Question is completed, the image becomes part of the Result and can be reviewed via Results, the Gallery, or Dashboards, depending on your setup.

Note: Photos taken with this question type are stored on the Result and can't be removed or replaced once submitted.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Can Users upload from their gallery instead of taking a new photo?
A: No — a new photo must be captured with the device camera.

Q: Can a Checklist include multiple Photo Questions?
A: Yes, add as many as you need for different verification points.

Q: Can Users retake a photo before submitting?
A: Yes — they can review, mark up, and retake the image before completing the Checklist.

Q: How do I make a photo mandatory only when something fails?
A: Use a Requirement trigger on a Select question to require a photo when a specific answer is chosen.
