Overview

You can now use NFC tags with Scanner questions in Mobaro checklists to verify assets, locations, or equipment in the field. This enhancement works just like QR code scanning — but instead of pointing your camera, you simply tap your device near an NFC tag.

NFC scanning helps:

  • Speed up inspections and reduce camera dependency

  • Verify checkpoints in environments where QR stickers are impractical

  • Improve validation accuracy by embedding NFC tags in durable materials

Tip: For QR code setup and validation logic, see how to utilize scanner codes.

Version requirements

To use NFC tags with scanner questions, your team must be running the Mobaro mobile app version 1.1.63 or later.

Note: Older versions will only support QR code scanning. Update the app through the App Store or Google Play before use.

How it works

When setting up a Scanner question in a checklist:

  1. Create or edit a checklist question and choose Scanner as the question type.

  2. Assign your validation method — either QR code or NFC tag.

  3. Deploy the checklist to your operators.

During inspection, operators can:

  • Tap their device near an NFC tag to verify the item.

  • See the tag value automatically populated for validation.

Mobaro will compare the detected NFC tag value against the value defined in your Scanner question configuration. If it matches, the question is validated just like a QR code.

Note: Mobaro does not create or encode NFC tags. You’ll need to generate and assign NFC tag values externally before linking them to your questions.

Best practices

  • Use permanent NFC tags for long-term validation points (e.g., ride control panels, maintenance stations).

  • Label tags clearly if operators use both NFC and QR in the same environment.

  • Test each tag after linking to ensure consistent readability across Android and iOS devices.

  • Maintain a record of all tag values for reference when updating checklists.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Can I use both QR codes and NFC tags in the same checklist?
A: Yes — different scanner questions can use either method independently.

Q: Does NFC scanning require internet access?
A: No. Validation happens locally in the app.

Q: Do I need to change existing QR checklists?
A: No. Existing QR-based questions will continue to function normally.

Q: Are all NFC tags compatible?
A: Most standard NTAG213/215/216 tags are supported and can be sourced from major online suppliers.
