Sometimes a submitted Result needs a correction — a mistyped reading, a wrong answer, an entry that shouldn't be there. Modifying a Result lets an authorized User edit or delete individual answers on a completed Checklist so the data stays accurate, without throwing away the whole Result.
Users must be Super Users or have the following Role to modify a Result:
Results: Modify
Why this matters: A Result feeds Dashboards, reports, and compliance records, so a wrong answer left in place quietly skews everything built on it. Modifying gives you a surgical fix — change just the answer that's wrong — while keeping a full audit trail of who changed what. It's a deliberate, logged action: changes recalculate scores but don't re-run the Checklist's logic, so it pays to know exactly what does and doesn't happen.
What's covered:
How to modify a Result
1. Open the Result
Go to Results, select the relevant Checklist, and click View.
2. Edit or delete an answer
Within each question you'll see two icons: Edit to modify the answer of an Element, and Delete to remove it.
3. Add any context
Add optional Attachments or Comments to explain the change.
4. Apply and finalize
Click Apply changes, review everything on the confirmation step, then finalize. Every edit and deletion is recorded on the Result's Activity Feed.
What happens when you edit or delete
Modifying a Result is powerful, but it doesn't behave like re-running the Checklist. The effects are nearly identical whether you edit or delete an answer:
Scoring for Questions, Pages, and the Report is recalculated.
Logic that shows or hides Questions based on answers is not re-triggered.
Assignments are not created, even if a new answer would normally trigger one (applies to edits).
Assignments already created by an existing answer are not removed.
All changes are logged.
Note: Because the full change history lives on the Activity Feed, a modified Result stays auditable — you can always see the original answer, who changed it, and when.
Modify vs. other actions
Editing answers is only one way to manage a Result. Pick the action that matches the situation:
Action | Use when |
Modify | A specific answer is wrong but the Result should remain. Keeps the Result and recalculates scores. |
The Result is a duplicate or no longer needed. Excludes it from reporting but keeps it, and is reversible. | |
The Result is bad data that must be permanently removed. Cannot be undone. |
Frequently asked questions
Q: Will editing an answer create or remove an Assignment?
A: No. Modifying a Result never creates new Assignments and never removes existing ones, even if the changed answer would normally trigger or clear one. Only the score is recalculated.
Q: Does changing an answer re-run the Checklist's show/hide logic?
A: No. Conditional logic is evaluated only during live completion. A modification updates the stored answer and the score, but won't reveal or hide other Questions.
Q: Can I see what was changed?
A: Yes. Every edit and deletion is recorded on the Result's Activity Feed, including who made the change and when.
Q: Should I modify a Result or invalidate it?
A: Modify when a specific answer is wrong but the Result is otherwise valid. Invalidate only when the whole Result is bad data — and remember invalidation is permanent.
