How to utilize scanner codes

Every Location gets a scanner (QR) code. Export or customize them, use the Scanner Question to require a scan during a Checklist, and scan codes to filter the mobile app by Location.

Overview

Mobaro generates a scanner (QR) code for every Location you add. These codes filter items in the mobile app and add verification to your Checklists. This article covers exporting the system codes, customizing them, and using them effectively.

Users must be Super Users or have the following Roles to manage scanner codes:

  • Locations: Modify

  • Checklists: Create or Modify

Why this matters: A scan proves someone was physically at the Location. Scanner codes turn a QR sticker into both a verification step on critical checks and a fast way for staff to pull up exactly the right Location's work in the app.

Exporting and changing scanner codes

Get a single Location's scanner code

  1. Go to Locations and select the Location.

  2. Click Edit and scroll to the Scanner Code section.

  3. Click the QR code to export it.

Change a Location's scanner code

  1. Go to Locations, select the Location, and click Edit.

  2. Scroll to the Scanner Code section.

  3. Type a value in the Custom Scanner Code box to change the code, then click the QR code to export it.

Critical: If you change a code that's used by Scanner Questions set to Location validation, any printed copies of the old code will stop working. Replace the physical codes for validation to keep working.

Bulk export scanner codes

  1. Go to Locations and enable Multiselect.

  2. Select the Locations you want, then click Export Scanner Codes.

Using a Scanner Question

A Scanner Question requires the User to scan a code to satisfy the question. To add one:

  1. Go to Checklists, select the Checklist, and click Edit.

  2. On the page you want it, click Add an element > Scanner Question.

  3. Enter the Title and Explanatory Text.

  4. Choose the Validation type:

    • None — any scanned code works.

    • Location — the current code for the Location this Checklist runs at must be scanned.

    • Specific — a custom code you create for this question must be scanned.

  5. Click Accept Changes, then Save the Checklist.

Using scanner codes as filters

Scanner codes also filter the Checklists, Assignments, and Location Overview tiles in the mobile app by Location.

Checklists tile

  1. Open the Checklists tile and tap Filter.

  2. Tap the scanner-code button next to Locations and scan the code.

Assignments tile

  1. Open the Assignments tile and tap Filter.

  2. Tap the scanner-code button next to Locations and scan the code.

Location Overview tile

  1. Open the Location Overview tile and tap the scanner-code button.

  2. Scan the code to jump to that Location.
