Signature Question Type

Capture a handwritten sign-off in a Checklist — the User signs on the device screen, recording who took responsibility and when.

Written by Logan Bowlby

Overview

A Signature Question captures a handwritten signature, drawn on the device screen, as part of a Checklist. It's how you record a formal sign-off — a technician confirming a ride is released, a manager approving an opening — directly on the Result.

Users must be Super Users or have the following Role to add or edit Checklist questions:

  • Checklists: Modify or Create

Why this matters: For safety-critical sign-offs, a name typed in a text box isn't the same as a signature. A Signature Question captures the actual mark on the Result alongside the User and timestamp — the accountability record an auditor or insurer expects to see against a ride release or food-safety approval.

Adding a Signature Question

1. Open the Checklist editor

Go to Checklists in the Mobaro Backend and open or create a Checklist.

2. Add the element

Click Add an element and choose Signature Question, then enter a Title that names who should sign (for example, Maintenance technician sign-off).

Best practice: Place the signature as the last item on a page or Checklist, after the checks it attests to, and name the Title with the role expected to sign — so it's unambiguous who is taking responsibility for what.

Yes

Show the signature only when relevant — for example only on the validation step.

A signature is a captured mark with no fixed value to test a condition against, so it doesn't support triggers. See Adding triggers to a Checklist for the types that do.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Does the signature record who signed?
A: The Result already records the completing User and timestamp; the Signature Question adds the captured handwritten mark to that record.

Q: Can I require the signature only at a validation stage?
A: Yes. Use logic based on the Checklist state to show the signature only when the Checklist is awaiting validation.

Q: Can a missing signature block completion?
A: Make the question required so the Checklist can't be submitted without it, the same as any other required question.
