Overview
Water quality checks are added to a Checklist with the Water Quality Question element. You link the question to a whole ruleset — not an individual rule — and the rule used for validation is picked automatically from the Checklist's Location. Staff don't choose a rule themselves.

🚀 Early access: Water Quality is an early-access feature and may not be enabled for your account. Contact Mobaro Support to request access. Until it's enabled, the ruleset table and the Water Quality Question element don't appear.
💡 Why this matters: Linking to a ruleset rather than typing limits into the question means every Checklist uses the same limits, and the rule for each Location follows automatically — no per-site editing, and no chance of staff picking the wrong rule.
Add the Water Quality Question
1. Open the checklist
Go to Checklists, select the Checklist you want and click Edit. On the page where the question should go, click Add an element.
2. Insert the Water Quality Question
In Add new Element, select Water Quality Question.
3. Link a ruleset
In the Question Configuration panel, choose a ruleset from the Ruleset dropdown (for example Mobaro Water Park). Rulesets are listed alphabetically.
The Ruleset dropdown starts at None. You can save the question without a ruleset, but readings are then not checked against any limits until you select one. See How to create a water quality ruleset.
4. Choose the parameters to record
Below the dropdown, tick the parameters staff should record on this Checklist. An opening Checklist might include a full baseline (chlorine, pH, alkalinity), while a midday or closing one covers only the most important readings. There's no separate “required” setting per parameter — a parameter is either ticked or not.
⚠️ Heads-up: A reading is only checked if its parameter is also ticked, with limits, in the rule that applies. A parameter ticked here but not in the rule is recorded without being checked.
5. Add triggers (optional)
Once a ruleset is linked, trigger conditions on the Water Quality Question compare a reading with the rule's limits: below the rule's range, within the rule's range or above the rule's range. Set them up in the question's Triggers panel. See Adding triggers to a checklist.
6. Save the question
Save the question, then save the Checklist.
How the rule is chosen
When staff perform the Checklist, Mobaro goes through the Water Quality ruleset's rules in order and uses the first one that matches the Checklist's Location:
A rule limited to Location Groups matches if the Location belongs to one of those groups.
A rule with no Location Groups matches every Location.
If no rule matches, readings aren't checked against any limits.
⚠️ Heads-up: Rule order matters. Rules stay in the order they were added and can't be dragged into a new order, so add a rule with no Location Groups last — placed first, it catches every Location.
🛑 Critical: If no rule matches a Location, readings there aren't checked against any limits, and nothing warns you. Make sure every Location is covered — for example, end the ruleset with a rule that has no Location Groups.
Water Quality checks in the app
When staff complete the Checklist in the mobile app, they enter a reading for each ticked parameter. A reading below the rule's minimum or above its maximum is marked Low or High. If the Schedule has Require validation on rule deviation turned on, staff also see a Deviations screen when they finish, where they can add an optional explanation — they can still finish, and the Result is marked as requiring validation. Frequently asked questions
How do I add another pool or Location to an existing water quality checklist?
You don't need a new Checklist. Schedule it at the new Location, and make sure a rule in the linked ruleset covers that Location (through a Location Group, or a rule with no Location Groups). Otherwise readings there aren't checked against any limits.
How do I set 2 decimals on the Water Quality Question?
You can't. Decimals are fixed for each parameter. See Configuring measurement parameters.
Can I select an individual rule when adding the Water Quality Question?
No. You always link a whole ruleset; the rule is picked automatically from the Checklist's Location.
What if two Water Quality rules match the same Location?
The one higher in the list — the one added first — is used.
