Overview
A Water Quality ruleset holds the minimum and maximum for each parameter you track (Free Chlorine, pH, Alkalinity and so on). A ruleset contains one or more rules — useful when limits differ by region, attraction type or Location Group — and is linked from a Water Quality Question in your Checklists.
Without a linked ruleset, a Water Quality Question records readings but doesn't check them against any limits.

🚀 Early access: Water Quality is an early-access feature and may not be enabled for your account. Contact Mobaro Support to request access. Until it's enabled, the ruleset table and the Water Quality Question element don't appear.
💡 Why this matters: Keeping limits in one ruleset — instead of re-typing them into every Checklist — means readings are judged against one set of values. When a requirement changes, you update the ruleset once and every Checklist linked to it uses the new limits from then on.
Create a ruleset
1. Open the ruleset table
Go to Configuration and open the Checklists tab. The Water Quality ruleset table sits alongside the checklist category and folder tables (its title reads Checklist Water Quailty Ruleset).
2. Create and name the ruleset
Click the + button (Create Ruleset). The Ruleset dialog opens with a ruleset called New Ruleset and one rule called New Rule. Replace the name with a clear one — for example Outdoor Pools, Pump Room or Hot Tubs. Names that reflect the water body make rulesets easier to manage later.
3. Set up the rule
The first rule opens automatically. For each rule:
Give it a name in the Rule field — for example Pools or Lazy River.
Optionally, use Limit to (Location Groups) and Add Location Group to limit the rule to certain Location Groups. See How to create location groups.
Tick each parameter this rule should check, and enter its Minimum and Maximum. Both are required for a ticked parameter, and neither can be lower than 0.
4. Add more rules if you need them
Click the + button at the bottom of the dialog (Add rule) to add another rule, and set it up the same way. New rules are added to the end of the list.
⚠️ Heads-up: Rule order matters. When staff perform a Checklist, Mobaro uses the first rule in the list that either has no Location Groups or has a Location Group containing the Checklist's Location. Rules stay in the order they were added and can't be dragged into a new order, so add a rule with no Location Groups last — placed first, it catches every Location.
🛑 Critical: If no rule matches a Location, readings there aren't checked against any limits, and nothing warns you. Make sure every Location is covered — for example, end the ruleset with a rule that has no Location Groups.
5. Save the ruleset
Click Save. The button stays unavailable until the ruleset and every rule have a name and every ticked parameter has valid limits. The ruleset can now be linked from a Water Quality Question in any Checklist.
The ruleset holds the limits. You choose which parameters staff actually record separately, on each Water Quality Question. A parameter that's ticked on the question but not in the rule that applies is recorded without being checked.
ℹ️ Note: Mobaro checks each reading against the limits you enter — it doesn't supply, recommend or check the limits themselves. Take your values from the regulations that apply to your site and from your water-treatment specialists, and review them whenever those requirements change.

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to add a minimum and maximum to every measurement when I create a ruleset?
No. Only the parameters you tick in a rule need both. See Configuring measurement parameters.
What happens if a Water Quality reading is out of range?
The reading is marked as a deviation (High or Low). Depending on your setup, a trigger can create an Assignment, or the Schedule can mark the Result as requiring validation. See Understanding validation warnings and failures.
Can I use the same Water Quality ruleset for several pools?
Yes. Add a rule for each set of limits (for example pools, spas or attractions) and limit each rule to the right Location Groups.
Can I change the order of rules in a ruleset?
Not directly. Rules stay in the order they were added. To move a rule to the end, remove it and add it again — you'll need to re-enter its name, Location Groups and limits.
