Troubleshooting red statuses on the Location Overview

Find out why a Location is red on the Location Overview widget and clear it: missed or unapproved Checklists, urgent Assignments or Blocking Downtime.

Written by Logan Bowlby

Overview

A Location turns red on the Location Overview widget when it isn't ready for operation. The same readiness color shows on the markers of the Location Map Overview widget. This article shows how to find out why a Location is red and how to clear it.

There's no built-in "location review" dashboard: if your organization has one, it's a Dashboard Template built with these widgets, and everything here applies to it. For the rules that decide what turns a Location red, see Configuring readiness colors on the Location Overview.

At a glance

Who can do this

Anyone who can view the dashboard. Opening a red Location's explanation: Super Users, or everyone if your organization allows it. Approving from the widget: see Clear the red status below.

Where

Dashboards › a dashboard › Location Overview widget

Works on

Backend (web). The same readiness shows in the mobile app and RideOps.

Availability

All organizations

🛑 Critical: A red Location can't be opened in the Mobaro app, the Backend or RideOps. Clear red by doing the outstanding work, or by approving or rescheduling it when that's genuinely right. Never approve a check that wasn't done just to turn a ride green.

Three things on a card can be red

Each Location card on the Location Overview has three colored parts. Only the title bar is the Location's readiness.

Part of the card

Red means

Title bar (the Location's name)

Not ready for operation. Something critical is outstanding right now.

Checklists bar

The red segment is missed Checklists; the orange segment is overdue ones, in the widget's time range and filters.

Status box (left end of the title bar)

A Blocking Downtime is active. See Downtime on Dashboards.

The title bar and the Checklists bar can disagree. The title bar counts critical Checklists and Assignments at this moment, whatever the widget's time range and filters. The Checklists bar counts every Checklist in the widget's time range and filters. So a missed Checklist shows red in the bar but only turns the title bar red if it's critical, or if your organization has turned on Red if one or more checklists are missing.

Find out why a Location is red

1. Open the color explanation

Click the red Location's name in the title bar. The explanation lists what's keeping it red on two tabs, Checklists and Assignments. A Blocking Downtime isn't listed there; click the status box to see the Location's Downtimes.

The name is only clickable on red Locations. Super Users can always open the explanation; other users can only if Allow access to color explanation dialog for everyone is on in Configuration › Location Overview.

2. Check the Checklists bar

Hover over a segment to see how many Checklists it covers, and click it to list them. The red segment opens the Missing Checklists tab; the other tabs are Available Checklists, Available Later and Completed Checklists. A CFO tag marks a Checklist that is critical for operation.

Clear the red status

Deal with each item the explanation lists. The widget reloads after you approve something from it; otherwise dashboards refresh automatically every 10 minutes.

What's outstanding

How to clear it

A critical Checklist that's available or overdue

Complete it in the mobile app.

A missed Checklist

On the Missing Checklists tab, click its status icon and choose Approve or Reschedule. See Approving or rescheduling missed Results.

A completed Result awaiting approval

Holds red only if Color is only affected by approved results is on. On the Completed Checklists tab, click its status icon and choose Approve. See How to validate Checklists.

A high-priority or overdue Assignment

Resolve the Assignment.

A Blocking Downtime

Resolve the Assignment linked to it, or close the Downtime in the Backend. See Using downtime in Mobaro.

🛑 Critical: Without the right permissions you won't see the option to approve, and clicking a status icon does nothing. To approve a Result, you need to be a Super User, or have Results › Validate and be a reviewer on its Schedule. To approve a missed Checklist from the widget, you also need Results › Validate Missing; rescheduling also needs Schedules › Create. Administrators grant these under Roles.

⚠️ Heads-up: Approving a Result only clears red when Color is only affected by approved results is on. When it's off, a submitted Result already counts as done, and the Location stays red for another reason: look at the explanation again.

Best practices

  • Start with the color explanation, not the Checklists bar: it lists only what actually holds the Location red.

  • Approve or reschedule missed Checklists every day, with a comment that says why, so they don't pile up and keep Locations red.

  • Turn on Allow access to color explanation dialog for everyone so supervisors can see why a ride is red without calling a Super User.

  • If a Checklist keeps turning a Location red when it shouldn't, review its Schedule's criticality rather than approving it every time. See Schedule criticality and Location operational status.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my location still red when all the checklists are done?

Something else critical is still outstanding: a missed Checklist that hasn't been approved or rescheduled, a Result awaiting approval (if only approved Results count), an open high-priority or overdue Assignment, or a Blocking Downtime. Click the Location's name to see which.

A missing checklist is making my location red. How do I clear it?

Approve or reschedule it. Click the red segment of the Checklists bar, then the Checklist's status icon on the Missing Checklists tab. You can also do it in Results › Missing Results. See Approving or rescheduling missed Results.

How do I see which checklists aren't completed yet for my location?

Click the Checklists bar on the Location's card. Available Checklists lists what can be done now, Available Later what opens later in the time range, and Missing Checklists what was missed.

How do I validate a checklist so the location turns green?

Click its status icon on the Completed Checklists tab and choose Approve, or approve it in the mobile app or Results. You need Results › Validate and to be a reviewer on the Schedule. See How to validate Checklists.

Why is a ride still red when its downtime is resolved?

The title bar shows readiness, not the Downtime. It stays red while a critical Checklist or Assignment is outstanding. With Red if a blocking downtime is active on the location on, that includes an open Assignment created from the Downtime. See Downtime on Dashboards.
