Overview
A Report Template is a saved set of show/hide choices for Checklist reports. By default, the Detailed Report shows everything captured in a Result. A template hides the parts a reader doesn't need — full-score questions, photos, internal scores, email addresses — so each audience gets a focused report.
Templates only hide content. They don't change the Result, can't add fields and can't change the layout. Templates are shared across your organization: anyone who can view a Result can choose any template when viewing, exporting or emailing it.

💡 Why this matters: A full report is right for the audit trail but too much for a quick review or an external reader. One template can turn the same Result into an Action Report that shows only the problems, or a contractor PDF without internal scores — set it up once and reuse it in views, exports and emails.
Create a Report Template
1. Open Report Templates
In the Backend, go to Report Templates and click Create. The menu item shows for Super Users and Roles with any Report Templates permission.
2. Name the template
Enter a Name (required) and, optionally, a Description. Users pick templates by name, so name them for their audience — for example Action Report or Contractor copy.
3. Choose what to hide
Tick the settings for the content you want to hide. Every setting is off by default, so a template with nothing ticked looks like the Detailed Report. The settings are described in the next section.
4. Save
Click Save. The template is available straight away wherever templates can be chosen.
Report Template settings
Settings are grouped into four sections, in this order in the editor.
Assignments
Setting | What it hides |
Hide created assignments | Assignments created from questions while the Checklist was done |
Hide assignment resolutions | How and by whom those Assignments were resolved |
Hide assignment history | Earlier values shown when an Assignment's name, assignee, asset, priority, deadline or categories were changed |
Score
Setting | What it hides |
Hide scoring questions where the maximum score is achieved | Questions that gave full points |
Hide non-scoring question | Questions that give no points: question types that can't score, and Select or Smiley Questions without points |
Hide questions where the score is below maximum | Questions that scored less than full points |
Hide Score by Page graph | The Score by page chart |
Images
Setting | What it hides |
Hide image elements | Static images added to the Checklist as elements |
Hide attached images | Photos Users attached to their answers |
Hide reference images | Reference images set on questions |
Hide image questions | Image Questions and their photos |
Other
Setting | What it hides |
Hide Action Points (along with Information) | The Action Points and Information panels on the front page |
Hide points on pages and question | Points and scores on each page and question |
Hide text elements | Text elements in the Checklist |
Hide comments | Comments Users added to answers |
Hide unanswered answer options | Options the User didn't select |
Hide explanatory texts | Questions' explanatory text |
Hide frontpage | The whole front page, including who completed the Result |
Hide frontpage score | The overall score on the front page |
Hide email addresses | Email addresses, such as the link on the performing User's name |
Hide ‘Answered by’ per question | Who answered each question, including earlier edits |
Hide ‘Answered at’ per question | When each question was answered, including earlier edits |
Hide manuals and videos per question | Manuals and videos linked to questions |
Hide orphaned assignments | The Orphaned Assignments section: Assignments created while answering that were later removed because the answers changed |
Hide compliance page | The compliance page with scheduling, revision, deviation and approval details |
Timesheet entries linked to a Result always show; no setting hides them.
Keep important questions visible
When you tick one of the three question settings under Score, extra options appear below it. Each one keeps a question in the report, even though the setting would hide it, when the question carries something worth seeing:
Unless a comment has been added
Unless one or more images has been attached
Unless one or more assignments were created
Unless question type cannot give points — only under Hide non-scoring question. It keeps question types that can never score, such as text or number questions, so the setting only hides Select and Smiley Questions without points.
For example, tick Hide scoring questions where the maximum score is achieved with Unless a comment has been added, and a full-score question still appears if the User left a comment on it.
⚠️ Heads-up: On a brand-new template, the Unless… options under Hide non-scoring question aren't saved the first time. After you create the template, open it with Edit, tick those options again and save. The options under the other two settings save normally.
Use a Report Template
There's no default template per Checklist or per User. You choose a template each time, and Detailed Report (or Default in a Result Report rule) means no template.
Viewing a Result in the Backend. Go to Results and open a Result. Choose the template from the report drop-down at the top of the report, which shows Detailed Report by default.
Exporting PDFs. In Results, select up to 20 Results, click Export result(s) and choose Export [template name] as PDF. One Result downloads as a PDF; several download as a ZIP with one PDF per Result.
Result Report emails. In a Result Report rule, tick Attach report for a recipient section and choose the template. Assignee, Reviewers, Location and BCC each have their own setting. See How to set up a Result Report.
In the Mobile app. Go to Reports, select a Result, and choose the template under Report Types. The report opens online, so the device needs a connection.
Edit or delete a template
In Report Templates, select a template and click Edit or Delete. Edits apply to every future view, export and email that uses the template, including existing Result Report rules.
You can't delete a template while a Result Report rule uses it. Mobaro shows Delete failed and lists the rules under The Template is in use on these Notifications: — change those rules first.
🛑 Critical: Deleting a Report Template can't be undone. The in-use check covers the Assignee, Location and BCC sections of Result Report rules but not Reviewers, so check your rules' Reviewers settings before you delete a template.
Best practices
Build an Action Report: tick Hide scoring questions where the maximum score is achieved and Hide non-scoring question, with the Unless… options for comments, images and Assignments. What's left is what needs attention.
For contractors and other external readers, hide email addresses, ‘Answered by’, points and the compliance page.
Keep the full Detailed Report for audits and compliance records; use templates for everyday reading.
Test a new template on a real Result before you attach it to a Result Report rule.
Frequently asked questions
How do I apply my report template to my checklist reports?
You choose it each time: in the report drop-down when viewing a Result, in Export result(s), under Report Types in the app, or on a Result Report rule. A template never applies automatically to all reports of a Checklist.
Can I change the way the reports look?
Only by hiding content. A Report Template can't add fields, reorder sections or change the layout. For other views of your data, see the Report selection guide.
Can I make a report where the person who submitted it is anonymous?
Not fully. Mobaro always records who completed a Result, and it shows in the Backend. In the report, a template can hide the frontpage, ‘Answered by’, email addresses, created Assignments and the compliance page. Timesheet entries always show who logged them.
How can I remove orphaned assignments from a report?
Tick Hide orphaned assignments in the template you use. Orphaned Assignments were created while answering but removed because the answers changed. See Orphaned assignments.
I can't see my report templates. Have they disappeared?
Check your permissions and organization. The Report Templates menu only shows for Super Users and Roles with a Report Templates permission, and templates belong to one organization. Everyone can still choose existing templates when viewing or exporting Results.
Can assignment descriptions be displayed on reports?
No. For each Assignment the report shows its name, definition, state, assignee, asset, priority, deadline, categories and, once resolved, its resolution — not its description.
