Pattern slots: scheduling a recurring cadence

Set up weekly Pattern slots on a Calendar Schedule or master Calendar: every setting and default, expiration, editing, deleting and limits.

Written by Logan Bowlby

Overview

A Pattern is the weekly repeat rule on a Calendar Schedule or master Calendar. You pick the weekdays and a start and end time, and on each of those days Mobaro creates a slot with the same deadline, grace period and reminders — so nobody has to add tomorrow's inspection by hand.

Patterns are the only way to repeat slots automatically. For one-off dates, monthly or yearly checks, or slots that run past midnight, use a Specific instead — see Specific slots: one-off and multi-day times.

💡 Why this matters: Set a Pattern once and the slots keep coming, with the same deadline and reminders every time. That consistency is what makes missed checks visible as Missing Results.

How Pattern slots work

  • On each day ticked in Available every, a slot runs from the start time to the deadline, in the Schedule's Time Zone. A master Calendar's Patterns run in the time zone of each Schedule that inherits it.

  • Each slot includes every Checklist in the Schedule's What? section, at every target. Checklists belong to the Schedule, not the Pattern.

  • A new Pattern only creates slots that haven't started yet. If today's start time has passed, the first slot is the next one.

  • A Schedule can have several Patterns — for example one for opening and one for closing, or one per set of days with different times.

⚠️ Heads-up: Patterns only repeat weekly, and each slot must start and end on the same day — including its grace period. There is no monthly, every-other-week or overnight Pattern. Use a Specific for those.

Pattern settings

Setting

What it does

Default

Title

Names the Pattern in the Patterns list. Required.

Empty

Available every

The weekdays that get a slot. At least one is required.

None

Start and end time

When the slot opens and its deadline. The end must be later than the start.

09:00–17:00

Allow grace period

Adds an End of grace period: extra time after the deadline, on the same day. See Adding Grace Periods to Schedules and Calendars.

Off

Set Start Date

No slots start before the Start date.

Off; ticking it fills in today

Set Expiration Date

No slots start after the Expiration date. Slots on that date still run.

Off; ticking it fills in one week after the Start date, or after today

Reminders

Push notifications to assignees at a time of day inside the slot. See Adding reminders to Schedules.

None

Leave Set Expiration Date unticked and the Pattern runs until you change or delete it.

Create a Pattern

1. Open the calendar view

Go to Schedules, select the Calendar Schedule and click Edit. For a master Calendar, go to Schedules › Calendars.

2. Add a Pattern

Click Patterns in the header to open Configure Patterns, click the plus button (Add Pattern) and enter a Title.

3. Choose the days and times

Select the days in Available every, then set the start and end time.

4. Add optional settings

Optionally tick Allow grace period, Set Start Date or Set Expiration Date, and click Add reminder to add reminders.

5. Save

Click Save Changes. The button stays disabled until the Pattern has a title and at least one day, ends after it starts, and the Expiration date isn't before the Start date.

Change or delete a Pattern

  • Changes apply straight away to every Schedule that uses the Pattern. A slot already in progress keeps its start time but takes the new deadline, grace period and reminders.

  • If an edit means a slot in progress no longer fits the Pattern — for example, you untick today or move the start time later than now — that slot ends immediately without creating Missing Results. With a later start time, a new slot opens at that time.

  • Configure Patterns lists only the Patterns that run in the period the calendar is showing. To find an expired or future Pattern, move the calendar to a period when it runs.

  • On a Schedule, a slot that has ended can't be opened: Mobaro shows "The selected slot has expired". Clicking a slot from an inherited master Calendar opens a message naming that Calendar, with Go to calendar — edit it there.

  • To pause a Pattern for a closure, add an Exclusion instead of editing it — see How to schedule a Checklist.

🛑 Critical: Deleting a Pattern can't be undone. Its slot in progress ends immediately without creating Missing Results, and all its future slots are removed — on every Schedule that inherits it, if it's on a master Calendar. To keep a record of an unfinished slot, let it run out before you delete.

Best practices

  • Name Patterns after when they run, such as "Weekday opening" or "Weekend close".

  • Put Patterns that several Schedules share on a master Calendar — see Creating a master Calendar.

  • Set an expiration date only when the cadence really ends, such as the last day of the season, and put a check-in in your diary before it does.

  • Edit a Pattern rather than deleting and recreating it, so slots in progress aren't ended without a record.

  • Add a reminder before the deadline on Patterns for critical checks.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a checklist repeat monthly, every two weeks or yearly?

Not with a Pattern — Patterns only repeat on weekdays, every week. Add a Specific for each date instead, on a master Calendar if several Schedules share them. See Specific slots: one-off and multi-day times.

Can a pattern run overnight, for example from 20:00 to 02:00?

No. A Pattern's start, deadline and end of grace period must all fall on the same day. For an overnight or multi-day slot, use a Specific, which has its own start and end dates.

Our pattern has expired. How do I extend it?

Move the calendar back to a period when the Pattern still ran, click Patterns, then move or untick Set Expiration Date and click Save Changes. New slots are created from now on; slots missed while it was expired aren't added back.

I created a pattern, but the checklist isn't there today. Why?

A new Pattern only creates slots that haven't started yet. If today's start time had already passed, the first slot is the next one. For today, add a Specific.

Can I change a pattern after its slots have been created?

Yes. Future slots follow the change at once. A slot in progress keeps its start but takes the new deadline, grace period and reminders; if it no longer fits the Pattern, it ends without creating Missing Results.

How do I add checklists to a pattern?

You add them to the Schedule, not the Pattern. Click Settings in the Schedule's header and add them under What?. Every slot of every Pattern on that Schedule then includes them.
