Overview
In the mobile app you don't pick a status from a list the way you do in the Backend. What you can change depends on whether the Assignment uses an Assignment Definition:
Standard Assignments (Created, Started, Finished) have no status field in the app. You finish one by adding a Solution.
Assignments with a definition have a State field. You can move between the definition's Initial and Step states there, and reach a Final state by adding a Solution.

Move an assignment to another state
1. Open the assignment
On the app home screen, tap the Assignments tile and select the Assignment.
2. Choose the new state
Tap State and pick the state you want. The list shows the definition's Initial and Step states only. Final states are chosen when you add a Solution.
3. Save the change
Tap the check mark at the top of the screen. It becomes active once you've changed something and every required field is filled in.
If you're offline, the change is queued on the device and sent when it reconnects.
What needs the Backend
Starting a standard Assignment. The app has no Started option for standard Assignments. In the Backend, select the Assignment and click Start assignment.
Reopening. Finished Assignments are read-only in the app and leave your active list. Reopen them in the Backend by changing Status (or State) back — see Resolving, documenting, and reopening Assignments.
Finishing without a Solution. In the app, an Assignment is finished only by adding a Solution; with a definition you choose the Final state there.
🛑 Critical: Adding a Solution finishes the Assignment. Finishing an Assignment that is High priority, or at a Critical for operation priority, can turn its Location green (ready for operation) on the Location Overview, unless something else still holds it red. Only finish it when the work is actually done.
When you can't change it
You're not an assignee (directly or through a User Group), not its creator, not a Super User, and your Role doesn't have Assignments › Modify. The Assignment opens read-only.
The Assignment is Finished. It's read-only in the app for everyone.
The definition has Who can resolve set and you're not in one of those User Groups. You can still change the State, but the Solution section isn't shown.
Best practices
Move definition-based Assignments to the matching Step state when you pick them up, so the Backend shows what's in progress.
On standard Assignments, add a comment to log progress, since the app can't set Started.
Reconnect after working offline so queued changes reach the Backend before the next shift.
Frequently asked questions
Can I mark an assignment as started or in progress in the app?
Not a standard one — the app has no Started option. Use Start assignment in the Backend, or add a comment in the app to log progress. If the Assignment uses an Assignment Definition, choose one of its Step states in State.
The status I need isn't in the list. Why?
The State list shows only the definition's Initial and Step states; Final states appear when you add a Solution. Standard Assignments have no state list. The states themselves are set on the definition — see Using Assignment Definitions.
I resolved an assignment by mistake on my phone. Can I undo it?
Not in the app — Finished Assignments are read-only there. Someone who can change the Assignment reopens it in the Backend by setting Status back to Created or Started. See Resolving, documenting, and reopening Assignments.
Why can't I change anything on an assignment in the app?
It's read-only for you. You need to be an assignee (directly or through a User Group), its creator, a Super User, or have a Role with Assignments › Modify. Finished Assignments are read-only for everyone in the app.
