Overview
Every Operator signs in to RideOps by tapping their name and entering a 4-digit PIN Code. An administrator sets the PIN on the Operator's user in the Backend, and Operators can change it themselves on the tablet. This article covers creating, changing, removing and unlocking PINs, and what each PIN message on the tablet means.
Attendants don't use a PIN; the signed-in Operator signs them in. See Signing in as an attendant.

💡 Why this matters: A working personal PIN identifies the Operator using RideOps. Set it before the shift, and know how to restore access if it is forgotten or locked.
🛑 Critical: An Operator without a working PIN can't sign in, and without a signed-in Operator the ride can't be opened in RideOps. Set a PIN for every Operator, and check none are locked, before the first operating day.
Set a PIN in the Backend
1. Open the user
Go to Administrate › Users and open the Operator. To set your own PIN, use Edit Profile in the menu under your name.
Open the User and find the RideOps panel in the right-hand editor.
Alt text: Reconstructed Mobaro Backend Users view with the Users menu and RideOps editor panel outlined.
2. Tick Create PIN Code
In the RideOps panel, tick Create PIN Code. If the user already has a PIN, the box is called Change PIN Code.
3. Enter the PIN
Type the new PIN in PIN Code. It must be exactly 4 digits. An existing PIN always shows as ****; the existing PIN cannot be displayed, only replaced.
4. Choose whether to ask for a new PIN
Encourage user to change PIN code on next login is ticked automatically. At the Operator's next sign-in, RideOps then shows This is your first login, please set your pin code and asks for a New Pin and Confirm new Pin. Untick it if the Operator should keep the PIN you set.
5. Save
Save the user. Ask the Operator to sign in with the new PIN while connected. The PIN belongs to the User, rather than to one tablet.
When managing another User, a locked profile requires Super User access. A Super User normally manages their own PIN; Mobaro administrators can also manage protected accounts. Users in multiple organizations can have additional editing restrictions. See User editing permissions. The Operator field in the same panel lists the Locations the user operates; see Setting up RideOps.
Create a four-digit PIN, choose whether to prompt for a personal PIN, and save.

Change your PIN on the tablet
Signed-in Operators can change their PIN without the Backend:
Tap the RideOps logo at the top of the left menu to open the settings panel.
Tap Change Pin, enter a New Pin, then enter it again in Confirm new Pin.
If the two don't match, RideOps says The entered pin codes do not match. Please try again and starts again.
RideOps doesn't ask for the current PIN, so anyone at a signed-in tablet can change it; Operators should sign out before leaving the tablet. The tablet needs a connection to save the PIN. If the Operator is signed in on another tablet, that tablet signs them out and asks for the new PIN.
The tablet shows New Pin, followed by Confirm new Pin.
Alt text: Two successive states of the RideOps Change Pin dialog: New Pin and Confirm new Pin, each with a numeric keypad.
Remove a PIN
On the user's RideOps panel, click the bin icon next to PIN Code (Remove PIN Code) and save. The Operator's name is then greyed out in RideOps and they can't sign in. If they're signed in, RideOps signs them out the next time it contacts Mobaro.
Use Remove PIN Code, then save the User. The Operator will need a new PIN to sign in again.
Alt text: Existing masked PIN in the RideOps User panel, with the Remove PIN Code bin icon outlined.
Unlock a locked PIN
After 5 wrong PINs in a row, the PIN locks. RideOps says Your PIN is temporarily locked., but the lock doesn't wear off: it stays until someone unlocks it. A correct PIN before the fifth attempt resets the count.
On the user, the RideOps panel shows PIN Code is locked because the user has provided the wrong code 5 times or more. Tick Unlock PIN Code and save. Unlocking keeps the same PIN; if the Operator has forgotten it, also tick Change PIN Code and set a new one.
Tick Unlock PIN Code and save. Change the PIN too if it has been forgotten.

PIN messages on the tablet
RideOps shows | What it means | What to do |
A greyed-out name and Missing Pin | The user has no PIN Code. A greyed-out name can also mean a missing Required Competency | Create a PIN in the Backend |
Invalid PIN | The PIN was wrong | Try again. Five wrong PINs in a row lock it |
Your PIN is temporarily locked. | The PIN is locked | Unlock it in the Backend |
It looks like your PIN may have changed. Please log in again. | The PIN was changed, removed or locked while the Operator was signed in | Sign in again with the current PIN |
Please try again | RideOps couldn't reach Mobaro, or Mobaro returned an error. Signing in needs a connection | Check the tablet's connection and retry |
Set PINs through the API
Integrations can set pinCode (4 digits) and encouragePinCodeChange when creating a user with POST /api/customers/users or updating one with PUT /api/customers/users/{id}. Sending an empty pinCode on an update removes the PIN. The API never returns a PIN and can't unlock one, and writing needs a key that isn't read-only. See Getting started with the Mobaro API.
Best practices
Leave Encourage user to change PIN code on next login ticked, so the Operator can choose their own PIN.
Unlock PINs only once you've confirmed who is asking.
Keep PIN changes with a small group of people who have Users › Modify.
Check for greyed-out Operators on each tablet before opening day.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I find my four digit PIN?
Nobody can look it up; the existing PIN is not displayed. If you're signed in, tap Change Pin in the RideOps settings. Otherwise ask an administrator to set a new PIN on your user.
How do I create a PIN code for a user in RideOps?
In the Backend, open the user from Administrate › Users, tick Create PIN Code in the RideOps panel, enter 4 digits and save.
My PIN is locked in RideOps. How long does it last?
Until someone unlocks it. Although RideOps calls it temporary, it doesn't unlock by itself. An administrator ticks Unlock PIN Code on your user and saves.
Can someone use RideOps without a PIN?
Operators can't; they need a PIN to sign in. Attendants don't need one, because the signed-in Operator signs them in to a Position.
Every time I enter my PIN, RideOps says it may have changed and asks me to log in again. Why?
Your PIN was changed, removed or locked while you were signed in. Sign in with your current PIN. If it's refused, ask an administrator to unlock it or set a new one.
