Resetting the RideOps app

Factory-reset a RideOps tablet to set it up with a new key, what a reset erases, and what to do when the Factory Reset button is missing.

Written by Logan Bowlby

Overview

Factory Reset clears RideOps on one tablet and returns it to setup. You must enter an Operation Key and select a Location again. Use it when changing the tablet's RideOps Key or when the checks below do not resolve the problem.

A reset only affects that tablet. It doesn't change the RideOps Key, the Location's RideOps Settings, or anything the tablet has already sent to Mobaro.

At a glance

Who can do this

Anyone at the tablet while an Operator is signed in. No Backend permission is needed.

Where

RideOps: the RideOps logo at the top of the left menu › Factory Reset

Works on

RideOps

Availability

All organizations. Hidden when the Location has Lock RideOps app configuration turned on

🛑 Critical: After a reset the tablet can't be used until someone enters a RideOps Key. A reset also deletes anything the tablet hasn't sent yet, such as dispatches, queue times and Notes recorded while offline, and Checklists in progress. Have the key ready and reset only while the tablet is online.

Check if you need a reset

Most changes don't need a reset:

You want to

Do this

Move the tablet to another Location on the same key

Tap the RideOps logo › Change Location. This works when the key has Allow Operators to switch location and includes that Location.

Fix Issues with operation key

Type a valid key in Operation Key on that screen and tap Change operation key. No reset needed.

Sign out the Operator

Open the Operators page (person icon) and tap Sign out. See Operating a ride in RideOps.

Connect the tablet to a different RideOps Key

Reset the tablet, as below.

Reset a RideOps tablet

1. Open the settings panel

Sign in as an Operator, then tap the RideOps logo at the top of the menu on the left. The logo does nothing until an Operator is signed in.

2. Tap Factory Reset

Factory Reset is the button at the bottom of the panel. RideOps asks you to confirm: This will do a complete factory reset of the app, and require a key to setup again.

3. Confirm with OK

Tap OK. RideOps clears the tablet and reloads on the Mobaro RideOps setup screen.

4. Set the tablet up again

Enter the key in Operation Key then tap Setup and select the Location to operate. See Setting up the RideOps app as a PWA on tablets. Super Users and Roles with Organization › Administrate can show a key in Configuration › RideOps; see Creating and managing RideOps key.

If Factory Reset is missing

The Location's configuration is locked. When Lock RideOps app configuration is on in the Location's RideOps Settings, RideOps hides Factory Reset and the widget settings. A Super User or a user with Locations › Modify can turn it off, reset the tablet, and turn it back on. See Setting up RideOps.

No Operator can sign in. If the Location has no Operators, the Operators page shows No operators could be found with Change Location and Factory Reset buttons. Otherwise, clear the browser's cookies and site data for rideops.mobaro.com on the tablet. This has the same effect as a reset, including losing unsent data.

Best practices

  • Use Change Location to move between rides on the same key; reset only to change the key.

  • Turn on Lock RideOps app configuration for shared tablets, so Operators can't reset them by accident.

  • Reset only while the tablet is online, after the last dispatches and Notes have been sent.

  • Keep the new key or its QR code at hand before you tap OK.

Frequently asked questions

How can I switch locations on RideOps?

Tap the RideOps logo › Change Location and pick the Location. The tablet's key must have Allow Operators to switch location and include that Location, and you must be an Operator there. Otherwise, reset the tablet with a key for that Location.

The Factory Reset option is no longer visible. Has it changed?

No. Factory Reset is hidden when the Location has Lock RideOps app configuration turned on in its RideOps Settings. Turn the lock off while you reset, or clear the browser's site data for RideOps instead.

Can I stop operators from factory-resetting a tablet?

Yes. Turn on Lock RideOps app configuration in the Location's RideOps Settings. Factory Reset disappears from the settings panel and Operators can't change the widget settings.

How do I sign out of a ride on the tablet to sign in to a different one?

You don't need a reset. Sign out on the Operators page, or use Change Location if the key allows switching. See Operating a ride in RideOps.

RideOps keeps asking me to re-enter the operation key. Why?

The key was deleted or no longer covers this Location. Enter a key that includes the Location and tap Change operation key, or add the Location to the key in Configuration › RideOps. See Creating and managing RideOps key.
