Overview
Water Quality Questions record test readings, such as Free Chlorine, pH and Alkalinity, and compare them with the limits in a ruleset. Mobaro marks a reading Low or High when it falls outside the applicable limits.
Use it for pools, spas, splash pads, water rides or any other water you test. This article explains how the parts fit together, how the module is switched on, and where to start.

How the pieces fit together

Water Quality ruleset | Holds the Minimum and Maximum for each parameter. Super Users manage rulesets on the Configuration › Checklists tab, in the table titled Checklist Water Quailty Ruleset. See How to create a water quality ruleset. |
Rule | A set of limits inside a ruleset, optionally limited to Location Groups, so pools, spas or regions can have different limits. For each Checklist, Mobaro uses the first rule that matches its Location. See Best practices for structuring rulesets. |
Parameter | One of 13 fixed measurements, each with a fixed unit and number of decimals. See Configuring measurement parameters. |

A reading is only checked when all three line up: the question has a ruleset, a rule in it matches the Checklist's Location, and the parameter is ticked in that rule.
🛑 Critical: If no rule matches a Location, readings there aren't checked against any limits, and nothing warns you. Make sure every Location is covered — for example, end the ruleset with a rule that has no Location Groups.
Turn on Water Quality
Water Quality is switched on per organization by Mobaro, through the Water Quality functionality feature access setting. Until it's on, these are hidden: the ruleset table, the Water Quality Question element, the Require validation on rule deviation option (on Schedules, Ad Hoc Slots and Ad Hoc Slot Triggers) and its RD tag, and the Value Development By Water Quality Question dashboard widget.
Each organization needs it separately — for example, a training or test organization doesn't inherit it from your main one. Mobaro administrators see Water Quality in every organization, so a screenshot from Mobaro can show options your organization doesn't have yet.
Set up Water Quality
1. Group your water Locations
If different water bodies need different limits, put their Locations in Location Groups — for example Spas and Pools. See How to create Location Groups.
2. Create a ruleset
Add a rule per set of limits, tick the parameters each rule checks and enter their limits. See How to create a water quality ruleset.
3. Add a Water Quality Question
Add the question to your Checklist, link the ruleset and tick the parameters staff record. See How to add water quality checks to a checklist.
4. Decide what happens on a deviation
Choose validation, triggers or both. See Understanding validation warnings and failures.
5. Test before going live
Perform the Checklist at a Location in each Location Group with readings just inside and just outside your limits. See Troubleshooting water quality setup issues.
Where Water Quality works

Mobaro checks each reading against the limits you enter — it doesn't supply, recommend or check the limits themselves. Take your values from the regulations that apply to your site and from your water-treatment specialists.
Best practices
Keep all limits in rulesets and reuse one ruleset across every water Checklist, so a changed standard is updated once.
End each ruleset with a rule that has no Location Groups, so every Location is covered.
Tick the same parameters on the Water Quality Question as in the rule that applies.
Record fewer parameters on routine checks — for example pH and chlorine every round, the rest once a day.
Test every new setup at each Location Group before relying on it.
Frequently asked questions
The Water Quality Ruleset doesn't exist on our account. Why?
Water Quality isn't switched on for that organization. Mobaro enables Water Quality functionality per organization, so a training or test account needs it too. Contact Mobaro Support to request access.
Do I have to add a minimum and maximum to every parameter in a ruleset?
No. Only the parameters you tick in a rule need both. See How to create a water quality ruleset.
Can one Water Quality widget show readings from several checklists?
Yes. Select several Checklists in the Value Development By Water Quality Question widget; their readings are combined into one line per parameter. For a separate chart per Checklist, add one widget per Checklist.
What does the {{RuleName}} token represent?
It isn't a Water Quality rule. {{RuleName}} is a token for email report notifications and inserts the name of the notification rule. See Create and manage Notification Rules.
